Review: Carmel High school(this is an original review)
Review By: Suraj Nayak    Review Date: 30 Jul 2009

Carmel High school was established by Mrs. Dorothy Menezes in the year 1968.It is a co-ed,private unaided institution, located at Judges Colony, Basaveshwaranagar, Bangalore. The medium of instruction is English. The school academic year is from June to April. It has now got a pre-university college as well.
Pupils are prepared for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education till 8th standard after which there is a choice given between the ICSE and state syllabus.I had chosen ICSE as I was(and I think I still am) pretty good at studies back then. The school was based on the Karnataka State Syllabus up to about 1995, post which, it got converted to the I.S.C.E. based syllabus one year at a time.
It hosts the Alexander Memorial Talent festival(the school fest) once in two years.

The school also hosts teaching through LCD screens inside the classrooms. It is regarded one of the best schools in Bangalore.
The students were actively involved in the club activities. These clubs included the environment club, computer club etc which conducted various competitions.
The school has programs and workshops such as:
1.Newspaper in Education(NIE) conducted by the times of India
2.Life Skills conducted by Mr.Syed Sultan Ahmed and his team which also hosts Horlicks whizzkids an all India level inter-school competetion.
3.GAP ie, Global Awareness program a brain child of Giri Balasubramaniam(Pickbrain)

The school campus has 3 buildings namely the main school block, Nursery block and the PU block. It also has a small ground where the morning assembly is conducted.
The school has an air conditioned hi-tech computer lab and a very good library.
The teachers are well versed in their subjects. The skilled craft and SUPW teachers are worth a special mention. There are 2 other labs for Biology and chemistry.

The school does not offer transportation facilities and the students have to rely on public transport or private vehicles.Hostel or boarding is also not available.

The school also encourages the students to participate in various sports events.
The school quadrangle also doubles up as a basket ball court.

I studied in this school from the 5th to the 10th standard.I had many unforgettable experiences which I will treasure for the rest of my life.

The school does not offer transportation facilities and the students have to rely on public transport or private vehicles.Hostel or boarding is also not available.

The fees also kept increasing exponentially after each year. The monthly fees was Rs.400 when I had joined and increased to around Rs.1000 over a period of 6 years.
This ofcourse did not include the admission fees(which was anywhere between Rs.5000 to Rs.8000) which had to be paid at the beginning of the year. The students also had to bear many additional expenses for the club activities and the programs mentioned above.

The school also encourages the students to participate in various sports events.
The school quadrangle also doubles up as a basket ball court.
