Overview
Kendriya Vidyalaya Khanapara is one of the most flourishing and the oldest Kendriya Vidyalas in Guwahati. The school was established in 1966 with only some students but now it provides education to more than 2500 students. Kendriya Vidyalaya has shown outstanding achievements and recognition in both states as well as in national level. The current principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya is Mrs. A.Hazarika. The main objective of the school is to bring about all rounded development in the student. The school is having classes from class 1 to class XII. There is also a separate building for pre-nursery.
Location
The school is located in the main civil sector in the Khanapara region. The school is situated near the main road of Khanapara. The whole school is surrounded by lush greenery and on the left side of the school, The Regional Science Centre & Administrative Staff College is located and on the right side NIPCCO is situated. Within the 100 km surrounding of the school many, education places such as Veterinary College, Agriculture Director Office, Sankardev Kalakhetra are also located. It provides a quiet and healthy as well as pollution free environment for education.
Bus facility and transport
The school provides buses only to the main routes and bus stoppages of Guwahati.
Curriculum and academic
The school strictly follows the course and syllabus prescribed by CBSE. The subjects allotted to the students are english, mathematics, science (biology, chemistry, physics, and biotechnology), social science, hindi, physical training or gymnastics and computer science. Most of the teachers are from outside Guwahati and the faculty is well trained, educated and experienced. Each teacher has gone through proper educational training and workshops before they started teaching in the school. The academic performance of the school is quite outstanding. There was a time when most of the top scorers were from this school only. About 20% of the total student scores above 90% the XII Board Exam.
Infrastructure and facilities
The school is a two storey huge building providing education to more than 2400 students. The school provides a lot of facilities to the students. There are three science laboratories which are well equipped with modern instruments. There is also a small science lab for the juniors separately. The school also has three mathematic lab and a biotechnology laboratory for the students. The school also has a big library which has more than 8000 books along with latest editions of reference and guide books. A multipurpose hall and gymnastic room is also provided where students carry out various physical training and activities for physical development.
Co-curricular activities
Every year the school organizes various co-curricular activities such as singing competition, dancing competition, debate inter-house competition, story or creative writing competition, drawing competition, quiz, annual sports week, annual function, science fair and exhibition week, mathematic week and various other activities and workshops to bring about enthusiasm and total physical as well as mental development of the students.
Admission
The admission always starts in the month of April and the admission forms are available in the school office or it can be downloaded for the school official website. The seats are allotted based on the academic performance and ability of the student. But the admission for class XI starts within 20 days after the announcement of the class X Board Exam results.
Fee structure
The fee structure is quite apt and good. The admission fee cost around Rs 25 and readmission fee cost Rs 100. The monthly fee cost Rs 200 to Rs 400 depending upon the classes which is quite cheap and affordable. The fee structure is one of the best advantages of the school which provide quality education at such affordable fee.
