Situated in a vast and beautiful compound at Peroorkada, on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram, the Kerala Law Academy Law College is the first institution in the private sector to be affiliated to the Kerala University to run a professional course.
The Academy was registered as a Society in 1966.It was formally inaugurated by Sri E.M.S Namboothirippad, the then Chief Minister of Kerala on 21 Oct 1967.
In 1968, affiliation was granted to the Society by the University of Kerala for providing instruction for the LLB course as an evening class aimed at the working population. Sanction for conducting regular classes was granted in 1970.Rtd.Justice Sri P Govinda Menon was the first Principal of the Academy. Subsequently, sanction to conduct post graduate course (LL M) in law was accorded in 1975. The five year LLB course which was introduced in the Country was sanctioned to the Academy in 1984. In 1995, a post graduate course in Business Law (M.B.L) was also started for the evening batch.
In 1984, the land at Peroorkada, which was held on lease by the Society, was assigned to the Academy. With this started the development activities in the College. New class room blocks, hostels, staff quarters, multipurpose stadium, library block, canteen and a block to accommodate bank and consumer store were constructed.Implementation of all the projects had the full support of students and well-wishers.
Right from the beginning, the students in the Academy were blessed to have eminent personalities in the field of Law as the faculty. Experienced people in the field have always found place on the rolls of the Academy. In turn it has produced very good Lawyers, Tutors and Jurists in addition to a number of efficient politicians from time to time.
Various projects including Legal aid services and Moot courts are conducted as a part of the curriculum to enhance the practical knowledge of the students. It will not be out of context to mention here that a number of students from the Academy has participated in various National and International Moot Court competitions and has come out with flying colors.
The campus is a blend of traditional and modern facilities. While all effort has been taken to maintain a traditional decorum within the campus, students have been provided with all modern amenities to help in their studies.
Efficient faculty, environment friendly campus, discipline and adequate amenities together has the Academy maintaining a top slot in the educational sector of Kerala.
