During the first half of 1960s, some residents of New Alipore in South Calcutta felt the need of a good Secondary school for boys in the locality and took up the matter with the Government of West Bengal. Agreeing with the proposal, the Department of Education of the State Government sponsored an institution. The school was founded on 9th January, 1964 and named New Alipore Multi Purpose School. The school is presently celebrating its Golden Jubilee. Over the years, the school has become one of the best schools of South Calcutta. This is a Government school (X+II level) and is fully funded by the Education Department of Government of West Bengal. It is located just beside New Alipore College. This is a boys' school and is affiliated to West Bengal Board.
For more than 50 years, many students of the school have made the country extremely proud of their achievements in various fields. Despite having limited space and lacking other infrastructural facilities (like many other Government schools of West Bengal and other parts of the country), the results of the school has been continuously awesome both at Secondary level and at Higher Secondary level. In fact, many parents with adequate means to send their children in expensive public schools would prefer New Alipore Multipurpose School provided their wards get admission in the school. Needless to mention, the admission process is extremely tough. So far as other facilities are concerned, it is clearly mentioned that the school suffers from space crunch to some extent. There is no canteen facility in the school. The scope of pursuing extra-curricular activities in the school is also limited. The school has no hostel facility and no transport arrangement for the students (Students make their own arrangements for transport).
It can be stated without any iota of doubt that New Alipore Multipurpose School is well known for the academic excellence of the students for 50 years.
This is a tribute from a former student of this illustrious school.
