One of my friend belongs to this college. She is very talented and now got married last year only. When she was studying, I have been to this college many a times to meet her. This college always maintained high academic standards. It is a girls college with hostel facility. In easy language we can say it is a residential college for womens who has provided freedom to express themselves openly and develop views that help them respond to changes in society. This college has produced many popular personality who is serving our country with their contribution in entertainment, political, media, economical fields. Some of the famous names are Sheila Dikshit (Chief Minister of Delhi), Nandita Das (Actress) , Mallika Sherawat (Actress and Model), Minissha Lamba (Actress), Madhur Jaffrey (Actress, Author of cookbooks), Anita Desai (Author), and many more in different fields.
The college hostel is very beautiful and has all the facilities and it is very strict too. The food in the hostel which they provide is good. The campus is very beautiful and very big too. Many functions are organized on different occasions. They all celebrates festivals too with great zeal. The college building is also very nice. It is built in warm red bricks with cool and spacious corridors. This college is very old college, they are celebrating 60 years of excellence. I came to know that the original design of the college was planned by the renowned architect Walter George. The college shares an architectural affinity with other colonial educational institutions of the country. This college has grown gradually and several other buildings have been added to its original design too and so day by day if you go to see this college after a long time, you will see there are many changes and addition in the college, which I saw.
The college is near to Patel Chest Institute, there are many stationary shops near by where students always come and Kalsa college which is one of the most popular college is also very near to this college, you can also see Mansarobar PG hostel few steps ahead which is opposite to it from this college. DU Art Faculty and the popular Main market i.e. Kamla Market is also very near, its their favorite hang out place. Vishwavidyalaya Metro Station is very near and also at 400 yards from the college is situated Mall road. There are some residential area near to this college. They are Hudson line and Vijay Nagar. There are many student who reside in this area in a rented house.
In this college one can get a stream of various choice. They offer undergraduate degrees in Bachelor of Arts, Bachelors of Science, and Bachelors of Elementary Education. Among its most popular UG courses are the B.A. (Hons) English, B.A. (Hons) History and B.A. (Hons) Economics. The admission in this college is based on the percentage of marks the candidate has secured in the Senior Secondary High School examination as the college declares a cut-off list for admission to various undergraduate courses every year also. So sometimes t is very difficult to get admission. However in admission to B.A. (Hons) English 50% weight age is given to the Entrance test and 50% weight age is give to aggregate % of marks in 1 language and 3 elective subjects. Also there are some limited seats reserved and on the basis of merit in Sports and Extra curricular activities one can get admission in this college.
I went to see this college last month after so long time just to hang out with my old friend. I was feeling little different but the originality in atmosphere was still there. The college building of this college is now declared an heritage building and work is on to preserve its pristine architectural glory. The college celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in 2007-08. The college canteen is very beautiful, neat and clean. And you can see students also come here to enjoy their favorite tea, samosa and the food is great. They take care of hygiene. The washroom in the college is also very neat and clean. The college has always maintained high academic standards.
The teachers are very talented and always ready to help their students in many ways. The English department is very nice. They offer a multitude of choices for students as well as mid-career professionals. The college also offers several short-term certificate courses for its students. The library is awesome. It is so beautiful and inside a complete silent. You can get all the book. You can come here for studies, assignment or just to make notes. The place is always in peaceful and you can read here with concentration.
Well, when I went to this college, we had so much fun there. You went to Kamla Market with my friend which is near by. We had some shopping together and come back to our place. I would say this college is the best college for women.
