Charuchandra College, Kolkata Review I passed out from this College in 1970. Oh my God! At the time of filling this form I realize that 40 long years past since I was graduated from this Charu Chandra College at Calcutta. I still love that college and my Professors, and Non-teaching staff.
The distance from my home to the Colelge was just 5 minutes walk. The college being situated in the Residential area in the heart of the city, near the Lake Market, there was not even a big campus or a garden or a play ground. No canteen facilities was available at that time.
All that we had, were big Class Rooms and huge well equipped Laboratories, where we spent the whole 3 years of the course. Study, study and study. Zoology :Dissected lizards, cockroaches, earthworms, pigeons, guinea pigs, toads/ frogs, fishes, etc. Botany: We used to go out to Botanical Garden, to collect plants, shrubs for our project. Chemistry: In the lab, busy detecting the salts, metals, solutions, chemicals, etc, always breaking test tubes and getting firing from the Lab assistants.
We never had any aid of computers or internet facilities at that time everything we had to do manually by going through the Library Books and manage with handwritten note books and illustrations drawn by hand. B.Sc. (Bio-Science) with Chemistry, Zoology and Botany were my subjects.
I was new to Calcutta then, shifted from Madras and was finding difficult to converse in Bengali with my classmates. Every body used to converse only in Bengali, though the medium was of English. So I really could not make many friends. Just had one close friend, whose name I still remember "Deepali". Again I cant recollect her surname.
The professors were very good. I still remember Prof. Lal for Zoology, and one Lady professor for Botany, just forgot her name now. I still remember our Chemistry sirs face, but could not recollect his name. Sorry Sir, and Madam please forgive me for not remembering your names.
After my graduation, I learnt shorthand and typewriting and started going to work. I was in Calcutta with my parents till 1984, then got married and joined my husband in Mumbai.
I am not in touch with any of my old classmates after I left the college. Very bad! What to do life is such for unlucky some and I am one of them.
