The Ramnarian Ruia College of Arts & Science, known simply as Ruia College, is well known for its arts faculty and gives a lot of emphasis on extracurricular activities as it does on academic studies. The college is affiliated to the University of Mumbai & was given A-grade accreditation by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) about 4 years ago. A unique feature of its academic programs is that this is the sole college offering a Bachelor degree program in French. The faculty is praised by students for going the extra mile in assisting students.
Location of Ruia College: The college is conveniently located near the Matunga railway station and is accessible by both train and the local public BEST buses.
Academic programs offered by Ruia College: The college offers undergraduate and post graduate courses in the arts and science streams & Ph.D. programs. Different subject combinations are offered by the college and there are also part-time & certificate courses.
Facilities at Ruia College: The fairly spacious campus is Wi-fi enabled. In addition to allowing students to access the Internet at the e-learning center in the library, there is a multimedia center as well as a film studio which gives students an opportunity to make short documentary films. The library maintains microfilms in addition to CDs and videos along with a good stock of national & international magazines & journals. Students love the mass media room, too, with the latest state-of-the-art facilities for making projects. As for the science labs, there are labs for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. There is even an separate study and research centre for postgraduate students & those pursuing Ph.D. programs.
A wonderful facility at Ruia College is the self vision centre exclusively for visually impaired students. They are allowed to record lectures & take printouts at the center.
The sports academy in the college conducts short camps annually in various sports such as shooting, boxing, badminton, etc.
While the canteen food is fairly good, students prefer to hang out with buddies at the local juice shop and eateries around the campus.
Extra-curricular activities at Ruia College All activities of the college come under the purview of the Vidyarthi Pratinidhi Mandal (VPM), established by the student body.
Ruia College has a variety of clubs which includes a quiz club and the gymkhana club. One of the most popular clubs is the theatre club, known as Ruia Natyalaya, which stages an annual program that presents the best plays of that year. Students can also opt to join NCC and NSS. Other than events organized by the various clubs, there is the annual cultural festival named Utsav. More popular than this festival is the intra-college festival Aarohan and the performances presented by the Marathi dramatics club.
