St. George's College, Mussoorie Review St. Georges College is one of Indias elite academic institutions. It is more than 150 years old school in the beautiful hill station of Mussoorie.
The school, an all-boys day-boarding and residential school, has an enormous campus spreading over 400 acres of land. The school was founded in 1853 by the Capuchin Fathers and handed over to the Patrician Brothers of Ireland in 1894. It was opened in a cottage known as Manor House - the name by which the Campus is still known and the students are called Manorites.
Sports and extra-curricular activities are an integral part of the lives of all manorites with academics. The school offers everything ranging from Sports, Extempore, Dramatics and Creative Writing to Music. There are various sporting fields, tennis courts and state of the art table tennis and billiards facilities. St. Georges is one of the very few schools with an indoor heated swimming pool in Uttarakhand. The indoor and outdoor basketball and badminton courts have helped the school produce great sportsmen.
For the parents a special account is opened which allows them to access his/her child's report card and disciplinary report on the school website. Getting on with the new generation and technology, cameras are connected around the school to ensure the safety of the students, and also to keep an eye on them. All the classrooms are equipped with LCD Screens where students can watch television during the allotted time. The students also are given smart cards to access the canteen and other requisites needed by them. A gymnasium with the latest equipments is available for the students in St. Georges College. The school has an auditorium that serves as a venue for functions and a theatre for movies(Hollywood/Bollywood) screened on Saturdays and other special holidays.
St. George 's College has two computer labs with the latest facilities like internet and printing for the students. The school also has its own on-campus health centre which provides basic medical aid to the students. A canteen is open everyday, during the breaks and in the evenings. The science labs have been built with state-of-the-art facilities for all the future science aspirants. A PCO is available for the students to call home and there is also a facility for parents to call their children during weekends. The school has its own bakery and chappati machines.
The school is divided into two distinct departments. The School Department which include Grade IV to Grade X (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education - I.C.S.E) and The College Department which include Grades XI and XII (Indian School Certificate - I.S.C.). The total strength of the school is 720 inclusive of about 150 International Students.
Examinations are held for all classes in the month of June, September and November.The admission is open only for Grade IV. Admission in other grades is subject to availability of vacant seats. An aspirant can contact the school in November to find about the vacancies for other grades. Applications for admissions for Class IV are accepted up to 31st August each year. The Entrance Test is conducted each year in October in English and Mathematics. Please note that preference in Admission is given to sons of past students, brothers of students who are currently studying or have studied and Catholic applicants.
