Affiliated to the University of Calcutta, Scottish Church College is a prestigious and nearly 180 years old institution. Formerly known as the Metropolitan College, it had produced a number of great souls and scholars, including Swami Vivekananda and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
The college authoriuty is very strict about the discipline. So if college life means only fests and no classes for you, Scottish is not going to be your place. The teachers are also very caring and experienced, and offer their best efforts for the students. The students in turn are sincere. No wonder the college has been graded A++ by the NAAC team and has been awarded the Centre of Excellence honour.
Only a five minutes walk from the Girish Park Metro Station and in a pebble throwing distance from the Bidhan Sarani, the students feel no problem to reach their classes in time. It has five hostels too, all within a walking distance of five to eight minutes. These are:
Wann Hostel (boys) Ogilvie Hostel (boys) Duff Hostel (boys) Lady Jane Dandus Hostel (girls) The Residence (girls)
A rich library as old as the college (nearly 180 years) has added to the prestige and quality of the college. Recently, the college has subscribed to JSTOR and the students can access the journal archive for free. Scottish Church college also has excellent laboratories and two very good cantenes. Also, it has well furnished toilets in almost every corners.
The college assembly hall is a heritage place hardly a student can forget his first year assembly there for the whole of his life. The annual Christmas choir in this hall is also an unforgettable moment.
The institution has thus long served the nation by producing well educated, disciplined and responsible citizens of our beloved India.
