Acharya Narendra Dev College, New Delhi Review
Acharya Narendra Dev College (ANDC) is affiliated to the University of Delhi and is funded by the Government of NCT Delhi. Acharya Narendra Dev College was established in 1991 which in comparison to other colleges under Delhi University is a fairly new college. The college is named after Acharya Narendra Dev who was an educationalist, a reformer and a freedom fighter.
ANDC college in a few years has gained recognition as an institution providing quality education to Indians as well as foreigners. The college is primarily a Science college though, there is a course in commerce too. The college aspires to be recognised as a centre for academic and research excellence.
Faculty
The college has ten Departments in the teaching faculty, nine of which conduct Honours Courses at the undergraduate level. The college has four B.Sc. Programmes courses in Physical Sciences, Applied Physical Sciences (Computer Science), Life Sciences and Applied Life Sciences (Sericulture). The college also has a Foreign Language Centre for Certificate and Diploma programmes in French, Spanish, German and Russian. The college offers post-graduate courses in M.Sc. Chemistry and M.Sc. Mathematics.
Acharya Narendra Dev College first started in four rooms at R.K. Puram in New Delhi with eighty students. The college was shifted to its current location at Kalkaji, South Delhi in 1992. Starting with courses like B. Com(Honours) and B.Sc(General), the college slowly and steadily increased its number of courses in due time. By the year 2000, ANDC had been offering almost all the science courses at the under-graduate level. The Foreign Language Centre was formed in 2003 with certificate courses in French, Spanish, German and Russian languages.
The college seems all set to inculcate the semester system proposed by University of Delhi in all its courses. As in the academic year 2010-2011, the college has 1263 students enrolled for the regular courses and about 200 students for the language courses.
Scholarships and Awards
Acharya Narendra Dev College has various scholarship programmes to help the students from the backward classes and to encourage meritorious students to perform well. Teena Gupta Memorial Scholarship, D C Arora Fellowships and Shri Sultan Chand Memorial Scholarship programmes are some of the scholarship schemes which the college has launched to help and encourage the students.
Award Programmes like Delhi University Positions, South Campus Position, All India Entrance Scholarship and University of Delhi Science Meritorious Awards are the schemes that the college promotes with University of Delhi.
Students Aid Fund
With the objective of providing financial assistance to the deserving students, Acharya Narendra Dev College has also formed a Students Aid Fund. Concession in the fees of the deserving students is also practised.
Infrastructure
A college with many science courses has to have many laboratories to make sure that the students are given a chance to practise what they learn through books and experiment. ANDC is equipped with proper laboratory facilities with the latest technology. The college prides itself to have one of the best science laboratories in Delhi.
More than 20,000 books adorn the library of the college. Bar-coding of the books evidently show the modernisation of library culture and book issuance. An Annual Books Exhibition is also held each year in the college.
A college without an internet connection for its students does not stand a chance in the education system of today. ANDC has a Web Facilitation Centre to provide internet access to the students for their research and analysis.
The college also has video-conferencing facility to facilitate communication with various other colleges with the same facility.

Acharya Narendra Dev College strictly follows the calendar according to the University of Delhi.
Extra-Curricular Activities
The college like any other educational institution believes in inculcating the habit of going beyond books and participating in extra-curricular activities. There are various committees and societies according to the nature of its objective which any student can be a part of.
National Service Scheme (NSS)
The college has a NSS unit that has more than 250 members who work towards spreading the message of social work through selflessness. They also work towards eradicating the evils of the society like Tobacco Consumption.
Sashakt
Sashakt, a committee for the female students and teachers to empower them has been one of the best programmes of the college. The committee strives to work for women against sexual harassment, self-defence and anything that could make a women more powerful.
A chapter of Spic Macay is also in Acharya Narendra Dev College which works towards promoting Indian classical music, Indian classical dance and Indian culture.The college also has facilities for sports like football, basketball and badminton.
