Shivalik Public senior Secondary School is one of the top most schools in Tarn Taran district of Punjab. The school is located about 1 km from Chabal town on Amritsar-Bhikhiwind road. It is about 24 kilometres from Amritsar and 20 kilometres from Tarn Taran. It is located in a peaceful and natural surrounding away from the hustle and bustle of the city crowds. This school was established in the year 2002. The school is affiliated to the Punjab School Education Board, Mohali up to senior secondary. It is managed by Dr. Gurnam Singh Memorial Educational and Welfare Society which is registered under the Societies Act. It is an unaided co-educational school.

The school is located in a two and half acres of land, fully covered by a five feet boundary wall all around the school. It has an attractive frontage with elevation. There is a round circular garden with ornamental plants in front of the main entrance after one enters the main gate. There are twenty four classrooms of the dimensions 18x22. The classrooms are airy and well ventilated. There are three science laboratories, one each for Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The school has library with more than 3000 books. The school has a modern computer lab with about 30 computers and state of the art educational software. The school is also equipped with two LCD overhead projectors. In addition to the classrooms and labs, the school has provided a well furnished rooms for the Principal, the Management Committee, the Staff and the Accounts staff. A separate quarter is provided for the watch and ward staff. There are separate toilet baths for the staff, the boy students and the girl students. There are more than sixteen water taps for drinking of water by the students and the staff. A submersible pump and two hand pumps are provided for drawing water. There is a canteen facilities for the students and the staff.

Just behind the school building but within the boundary walls of the school, a large area is provided for games like football, hockey, volleyball and other games. The school has provided two volleyball grounds. There is a kho-kho and kabbaddi grounds and athletic field. The players of the school volleyball team has represented the school at inter school games at the state level and also at the national level. There is separate playground for the students of nursery and kindergarten. These are provided with nursery play materials and infrastructure like merry go rounds, slides, swings, see-saw etc.

Balbir Singh is the Principal of the school. He is a post graduate in Political Science and History besides holding a teaching degree in education. He has experience of ably managing several government school before joining the Shivalik School.

Its students have brought laurels to the school by getting 100% results in Board examinations in the fifth, eighth and tenth standards. The school students regularly participate in the religious competitions and examinations held by Sikh Missionary College, Ludhiana and Satnam Sarva Kalyan Trust, U.S.A. The school students have won many prizes, certificates and trophies from these institutions.
Cultural activities in the Shivalik Public Senior Secondary School
Every year the school holds an annual function in the school premises. For this purpose, the school has a permanent stage of about 30x40x5 dimension. The school has its own public announcement system. A large number of students are made to participate in the cultural programme which is followed a community lunch. Every year, the new academic session starts with religious prayers followed by a community lunch for the students and the staff. The school students also participate in the national festivals like the Independence Day and the Republic Day held by the government at district headquarters, Tarn Taran.

The school charges a nominal monthly fees ranging from Rs.200 to Rs.440 for nursery to senior secondary classes respectively. In addition to this, a one time admission fees ranging from Rs.2000-Rs.3000 is charged at the time of admission. Annual charges of Rs.600/- per annum is charged from the students. The admission is based on first come - first served basis. There is no computer fees or any other hidden charges levied by the management of the school.
