Ideal Educational Society College of Engineering, Thrissur Review
Introduction
The IES College of engineering & technology is started in the year of 1991 and promoted by the Ideal educational society. Over these years IES become one of the major academic institutions providing good engineering in the state of Kerala.
Location
The IES College of engineering is located at Chittilappilly (Adat Grama panchayt) in cultural capital of Kerala, Thrissur. The college is only 10 Km far away from the Thrissur corporation. The Thrissur- Guruvayoor highway is 2 km away from the college.
Campus
The IES college engineering campus is spread over 40 acres of natural beauty land. The campus include the College building with more than 12000 square meters built up area, accommodating class rooms, tutorial rooms, drawing halls, computer laboratory, administration office, department office, and staffroom etc. The main laboratory building is 3000 square meters in area and consists of various laboratories, workshops, and machine shops.
Course offered
The IES College of engineering offers the following six courses in B tech with an intake of 60 students in each course. 1) Applied electronics and communication engineering 2) Civil engineering 3) Computer science and engineering 4) Electronics and communication engineering 5) Electrical and electronics engineering 6) Mechanical engineering. The courses are approved by All India council for Technical education and also affiliated by University of Calicut.
Admission and Fees structure
The admission started in the month of June. The applicant should pass in higher secondary level examination with the minimum mark prescribed by the Calicut university. And also attend in the entrance exam offered by the state Government of Kerala and secured a position in the rank list. But there are NRI seats are available for the students even they are not appeared in the entrance test. The fee structure in the college per the Government order or rule and updated time to time. The fees in the merit seat is 35000 per year. There are number of scholarship as well as stipends is available in this institute.
Infrastructure facilities
Infra structure facilities in the college are listed below.
Central library
The central library consists of vast number of latest edition of books and journals from Indian and foreign authors. And also consist of digital library with modern facilities, digital multimedia and large collection of micro films and CDs, is tuned into the one of the good library in this kind of institute.
Computer centre
The computer science department has four air conditioned computer laboratories which consist of modern computer system and accessories. The main network of the college includes six servers and more than 270 terminals of IBM compatibles, with internet sharing facility. One of these labs is taken as the Computer center and is used for internet browsing by students and staff. The other departments of the college have their own computer labs with server networked nodes for software applications, projects etc.
Teaching and teaching aids
The teachers are well capable of taking the class. And they are very much friendly with students. Therefore there is remaining a good and calm atmosphere between them. There are most modern teaching aids like LCD, Laptops and audio video devices for helping the teachers to take class in the efficient manner. The teachers some time give seminar topic to the students and also this give opportunity for the student how to take the class. And they give necessary guidelines for the student to take class. The college conducts series examination to evaluate the performance of the students regularly.
Hostel facilities
There are separate hostels is available for both boys and girls with good facilities in the college compound itself.
Transportation
There are number of vehicles are available for the students and staffs for the purpose of transportation. The destinations long distance like Vadanappilly, Iringalakkuda, Kodakara, Kunnamkulam, etc and to all suburban areas of Thrissur.
Canteen
IES food plaza is a vast building. It provides vegetarian and non vegetarian food items are available at nominal rates. The food is not all good, but not all that bad. And it will be marked as average food.
Arts&sports
There are play grounds exclusively for football, cricket, basketball, shuttle etc. Students have participate in sports and games competition events at the college and also intercollegiate level . And also provide arts facility for the students. Thus create an opportunity for the student to spread their skill in the respective fields of arts and sports to the public.
Training and placement centre
Training and placement cell is an integral part of any engineering college. Here this is done well so far. There are more than 250 students are get placed in more than 54 companies through campus placement. And the college provides good training to help the students to reach good placement.
Other
The college has a vast auditorium with intake seating capacity of 1500 persons. Also present mosque that facility to for girls and boys for their prayers. The college release time to time new letters and magazines. And also provide medical facilities in the in the campus, with containing well equipped first aid.
Co-curricular activities
The college provides provision for developing technical skill, updating knowledge, personality development, and services to the society through various association. Consist of association of various departments NSS, Natural club, Road safety club etc are there in the college.
Discipline
The college has well disciplined rule inside the campus. But sometimes that are violated. All students should wear proper uniform inside the campus. Use of mobiles and similar devices is prohibited inside the campus. The students are not allowed to smoke or take drugs inside the campus.
Working time
The college is worked on from Monday to Friday. There will not be regular classes on Saturdays. The normal working time of the college is from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm with a lunch break of 50 minutes. From 12.50 pm to 1.40 pm on Fridays lunch break will be from 12.30 pm to 2.00 pm.
