Introduction
The Vidya academy of science& technology (VAST) is promoted by the Vidya international charitable trust and established in the year of 2003. Over these years Vidya become one of the major academic institutions providing high quality engineers to the world. Vidya is become the one of the best engineering college in state of Kerala in a short period. This is a ISO 9001-2008 certified institution
Location
The Vidya academy of science and technology is located at Kurumal, Thrissur district.And it is 15th Kilometer on Thrissur-Guruvayoor highway. And to reach the college easily by public and private transport busses which stop at Kaiparambu. And the college is nearly 1.5 km away from the Kaiparambu bus stop.
Campus
The campus is extended over 30 acres of natural beauty land. The main College building is divided into 3 blocks namely main block, south and north block with more than 23000 square meters built up area, consisting of class rooms, tutorial rooms, drawing halls, computer laboratory, administration office, department office, and staffroom etc.
Course offered
The Vidya academy of science and technology offers the following six courses in B tech with an intake of 60 students in each course except ECE, ECE has intake of 120 students.1) Production engineering 2) Civil engineering 3) Computer science and engineering 4) Electronics and communication engineering 5) Electrical and electronics engineering 6) Mechanical engineering. The courses are approved by All India council for Technical education and also affiliated by University of Calicut. And also have 3 year post graduate course in master of computer applications.
Admission and Fees structure
The admission to B tech course is carried out in VIdya at the month of june. The eligibility criteria for admission in this institution are a pass in the higher secondary level examination with minimum mark prescribed by the University of Calicut. And also appear in the entrance exam offered by the state Government of Kerala and secured a position in rank list. The management seats are purely based on the merit. They have made another rank list according to the mark in the board exam, but also in the entrance rank. The students gets the seat even they are not appear in the entrance, the seat is provided as NRI seat. The fee structure is as per the Government rule and updated time to time. There are number of scholarship as well as stipends are available in this institute that is offered by the institution itself and from the outside.
Infrastructure facilities
Infra structure facilities in the college are listed below.
Central library
The college library has a collection of more than 16000 books in various engineering branch from the Indian authors as well as foreign authors. And also plenty of volumes of book that dealing with social science and literature. The college used bar-code for computerized circulation system. The library has seating capacity of around 150. The reference library function from 9.00 Am to 7.00 Pm. And also Photostat facility is available at minimal rate of Rs 0.50 per page. The college has digital library with modern facilities which consist of large number of micro films and CDs.
Labs
The college provides well equipped lab facilities for the students. The computer labs are well equipped with more than 500 computers with latest configuration of Windows and Linux and a number of other high-end multiprocessor servers. Multiple dedicated leased line access with internet bandwidth of 4mbps. And also well equipped and high functional lab for various branches is available in the college, and well qualified trainees are taken the class.
Teaching
Well qualified teachers are taking class in this college. Most of them are get master degree and have much experience in teaching profession in India and abroad. And also they are very much friendly with students. Therefore there remain good atmosphere between them. The college has most modern teaching aids like LCD, Laptops and audio video devices for helping the teachers to take class in the apt manner and also to provide presentation. The seminar topic is provided to the students by the teachers and also this give opportunity for the student to increase the presentation skill of the student. And they give required guidelines for the student to take the class. The college conducts series examination regularly to evaluate the performance of the students.
Hostel
There are separate hostels is available for both boys and girls with good facilities in the college compound itself. Common rooms offer TV, games, music, telephone, reading and internet facilities to the students. And also provide services of dining laundry and 24 hours of full security.
Transportation
The college provides number of vehicles and is available for the students and staffs for the purpose of transportation. The destinations long distance like Vadanappilly, Iringalakkuda, Kodakara, Kunnamkulam, etc and to all suburban areas of Thrissur.
Canteen
College canteen has seating capacity of more than 150 person at a time, offers vegetarian and non vegetarian food for students and staff. This is mainly for hostlers. A store attached to the college canteen provides essential items. Only light foods are available on there, but it is quite good. There is a small hotel outside the college, and most of the student depends on that hotel to take lunch.
Arts& Sports
The college provides play grounds for football, cricket, basketball, shuttle etc with a large area. And the ground is situated in the back side of the college, and it is well distanced from the class. Students are always encouraged to participate in sports and games competition events at the college level and also intercollegiate level . And they secure good win various competition. And also provide arts facility for the students. And students also secure some outstanding wins through the youth festivals. Thus the college creates an opportunity for the student to spread their skill in the respective fields of arts and sports to the public.
Training and placement
The VAS provides good training for the students to enhance the human skill development and also general aptitude of the student. Leading IT- and non IT companies are regularly come to the college for the recruitment. There are lot of students get placed in the reputed industry from this college. The college provides counseling for the students to motivate the student for their overall development.
Other
The college has a vast auditorium with intake seating capacity of 1500 persons with fully air conditioned. And also provide banking facility in co operate with India overseas bank. The college has co-operative store and it provides text books and other necessary items to the student.
Co- curricular activities
The college provides way for developing technical skill, updating knowledge, personality development, and services to the society through following associations. There are different association in various departments like NSS, Natural club, Road safety club etc are presents in the college.
Discipline
The college has well maintained discipline. The student must wear uniform to enter in the college. Use of mobile phone is strictly prohibited inside the campus. Ragging cell is functioned properly to discourage ragging in the college.
Working time
The college is function from Monday to Friday. There will not be regular classes on Saturdays. The normal working time of the college is from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm with a lunch break of 1 Hr. From 12.45 pm to 1.45 pm on Fridays lunch break will be from 12.30 pm to 2.00 pm. Morning interval is start at 10.50 am to 11.00 am.
