Introduction The Royal College of engineering and technology is a product of NRIs in the field of technical education. It is a private self financing college. The college is started in the year of 2003. The Royal engineering college is the first college in the Kadangode panchayat, and before that no other engineering college is there at the nearby place of this village. By the arrival of Royal engineering college the face of the village also got some changes along with the development of college.
Location The college is located at Akkikavu in Thrissur district. But actually the place is Chiramanengad, but the location of college is known by the name Akkikkavu. The college is situated on the way of Perumpilavu to Thrissur. But it is distant from the road about 0.5 km from the National highway. So that traveling vehicle do not disturb the college for study atmosphere. The nearest town of the Royal College is Kunnamkulam (6 KM). The nearest railway station to the college are Guruvayor (15 KM) ,Thrissur (24 KM), Kuttipuram(25 KM) and Pattambi(18 KM). The nearest airports to the Royal College are Cochin and Calicut.
Course offered The Royal College of engineering and technology offers the following six courses in B tech with an intake of 60 students in each course. 1)Applied Electronics & Instrumentation 2)Computer Science And Engineering 3)Electronics and Communication Engineering 4)Electrical and Electronics Engineering 5)Civil engineering 6)Mechanical Engineering The courses are approved by All India council for Technical education and also affiliated by University of Calicut.
Admission and Fees structure The applicant should be passing in the higher secondary level examination with minimum mark prescribed by the University of Calicut for eligible for the admission. And also appear in the entrance exam offered by the state Government of Kerala and secured a position in rank list. The student who didnt attend in the entrance exam conducted by the state government can apply for NRI seat. There is 9% of seats are available for NRI category. The applicant should bring the original copies while taking the admission.
Infrastructure facilities The infrastructure facilities of the Royal engineering college are listed below. The infrastructure accommodates the labs, class rooms, administrative office, play ground etc.
Central library The college library is built with international standard, and spread over larger area. And the central library has high level security is provided. Specialized collection books journals and non book materials are available in basic science, engineering and technology, humanities and social science. The Royal college central library consist of more than 10000 standard books from Indian and foreign authors. All the students and faculty members of the institute are eligible for the membership of the library. The College uses bar coding system to distribute the books to the members. Books will be issued to members only when they produce the membership card.
Labs The Royal college has well equipped labs are available for the students of various departments. The lab classes are under taken by the well qualified trainees. The college has computer labs which contain more than 200 computers with latest systems and configuration. They try to provide best lab for the student to help their practical study. There are various labs are available for the various department and worked as functionally.
Teaching The Royal engineering college has well experienced and well talented teachers and they make class easier. The college management has tried to given the maximum for the students. The teachers and students are make a friendly approach and so there remains a cool atmosphere between them. The teachers give seminar topic to the students to help them to face the stage. The teachers use most modern facilities like LCD, Audio video system for teaching aids.
Hostel There are separate hostels for both boys and girls are available in this college. The hostel has well furnished room with a cot, table, and chair for each student and also ceiling fan is available. Each hostel has reading room for news papers, periodicals, and also popular magazines. Each hostel has separate TV room with cable connection and also 24 hours telephone facility is available in the reception. Full day generator facility is available in both the hostels. The college hostel bathrooms are fully tiled and both Indian and western closets are there in the college.
Transportation The college has more than 10 buses for the transportation. The students and staffs from distant places will depend on these buses. The college have regular trips to Thrissur, Irinjalakkuda, Wadakkanchery, Kunnamkulam , Edappal and Guruvayur.
Canteen The college has a canteen and that offers vegetarian and non vegetarian food for students and staff. The canteen provides foods in minimal rate. The food is not at all bad but not at all good. There arise a food poison issue in the college canteen in the past year, but now it is changed, and they now provide moderately good food.
Arts& Sports The college provides play grounds for football, cricket, basketball, shuttle etc with a large area. Students are always encouraged to participate in sports and games competition events at the intercollegiate level in addition within the college. And they got good win various competition. The Royal College also provides arts facility for the students. And the students also secure some outstanding wins through the youth festivals. Thus the college creates an opportunity for the student to spread their skill in the respective fields of arts and sports to the public.
Training and placement The Training & Placement Cell apart from the normal placement activities have a frequent personal interaction with the students which in turn help to understand & realize their problems better and try to solve effectively & boosting their confidence in every aspect. Various companies are come in every year to this college for campus recruitment.
Other The college has a vast auditorium with large seating capacity. The college has co-operative store and it provides text books and other necessary items to the student. And the college has prayer room for praying for Muslim students.
Co- curricular activities The co-curricular activities are held by the various association formed in the college. Like NSS, Environment club etc..
Discipline The discipline in the Royal College is not getting full mark. But can give an average mark. The students are responsible to wear uniform inside the campus. Using of mobile phone in the class or the college is strictly prohibited as per Government order.
Working time The college is function from Monday to Friday. There will not be regular classes on Saturdays. The normal working time of the college is from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm with a lunch break of 1 Hr. From 12.45 pm to 1.45 pm on Fridays lunch break will be from 12.30 pm to 2.00 pm. Morning interval is start at 10.50 am to 11.00 am.
