International Maritime Institute Ltd., Greater Noida Review
International maritime institute is the only merchant navy institute in India with facility of training engine and navigational students under one roof. This institute was opened in 1992. Initially college was not famous but in duration of time it has gained lot popularity and now it is among good merchant navy colleges. Academy is spreads in 9 acres of campus with all facilities inside the academy. Academy has around 400 cadets studying in camps. Three courses which are offered by the academy are namely:
1) Marine engineering
2) B.sc in nautical sciences
3) Graduate mechanical engineers.
Connectivity
Connectivity of the academy is very good. It is hardly 1 km from Greater Noida express way. It is 45 minutes drive from Delhi to reach ‘Pari chowk' where the college is situated. College is on main road but railway and air connectivity is far, yes lot of private vehicles and auto rickshaw are available all time to travel. Since the crowd in greater Noida is very less. So you can come by your own mode of transportation.
Infrastructure
Academy is having decent infrastructure. College is having separate workshop, Academic, Administrations and hostel. College is having two separate one for marine engineers and other for nautical sciences. College is not having an amphitheater. Academy is having common hall but it is very small with a small television. College is having a small library and this library is having only syllabus books. 24 hour security and power backup is provided to the cadets. Academy is having three hostels inside the campus. Condition of hostel is all right and rooms are spacious. One thing which is unique about this academy is that it has the facility of ‘ship in campus'. I mean they have separate ship for training the students about the marine engines and similarly proper infrastructure for training the nautical sciences students. Laboratory of the institute are all right as comparing to the students number here. Academy is having 10 meters long swimming pool for the cadets.
Sports facility
Academy is having volley ball, basket ball, badminton, cricket pitch and football ground. But they are not of any quality and they are simple. There are only two indoor games facilities which are namely: Table tennis and billiards. Sports material to the cadets is provided by the college for playing. Yes you can have other sports too on the common hall.
Transportation
College is having only 3 buses for transportation. So these amounts of buses are enough for the 400 cadets as the courses are purely residential. So need of major transportation. Some cadets have their own bikes, so they use it for going far places and home in the time of holiday.
Entertainment activities
Management of the academy does not offer too much activates of entertainment. But cadets themselves do lot of entertainment activities like New Year celebrating and celebrating the festivals together. ‘National maritime day' celebrated in the month of March every year and it is the biggest annual even tin the academy. All merchant navy colleges in north India gathers in IIT Delhi to participate in sports competition among the merchant navy colleges. Cultural night is celebrated in IGNOU campus at their auditorium where all the colleges perform.
Outdoor programs
Cadets are taken to ship visit to Kandla port for ship visit. This activity is carried in the month of February and June. Senior batches especially the last year batches are taken to industry visit like Hero Honda, Maruti Suzuki etc. No other outdoor program is there in the college. Yes college goes to the NTPC electron quiz every year.
Academic background
Academy is having decent academic background taking in account the way teachers teach here. Academy have sufficient amount of teachers and chief engineers. Chief engineers teach very well but the other subject teachers are not that good and are having only B.tech degree. Two students last year won the gold medal for B.tech program from the technical university. Pass percentage of students in the academy is low and students have to study the non trade subject of their own. So if you are planning to join the academy then you should have the habit of self study.
Mess and Canteen food
The quality of food of the mess is very good and better than any hostel which are present in the vicinity. Academy is having a small canteen which offers snacks but at higher rate than market. Every day different food is cooked in the mess hall and it is really good. Proper hygiene and cleanliness is maintained while preparing the food. On special occasion like new year or independence day special food is served in the academy. In evening snacks are given by the mess.
Placement
Placement of the academy is not stable, I mean one year it more than 100 percent and one year it is 50 % only. But for over sometime the placement is 85% and is stable. One cadet only gets one company. So fewer options for multi company placements.
Hang out zone
The Jagat farm and Ansal Plaza is the most favorite place to hangout.Lot of eateries, General stores and other shops are available here. Food served outside is very good and at reasonable rate. Great India Place is another very famous and most visited destination for hangout. Here all the cinema hall, clothe shops food chains and other shops are available. It is around 23 Km from the academy and it takes only 40 minutes to reach by travelling on expressway.
Fee and school timing
Fee structure of the school is very high and is not rightly decided as per the facility provides by the management. The fee for four year B.tech in marine engineering program is Rs 1300000/-. For other one year courses the fee structure is around Rs 400000/-. So you can see how much costly the course are and the management does not provide facilities as per the fee structure they charge. No scholarship is available in the academy.
Academy timing is as follows:
9.00 A.M to 5.00 P.M and One hour break in between.
