Overview


New Horizon Scholars School offers a unique academic environment of continuous influence and interaction which are essential for the enrichment of mind and body. It is run by Nagar Yuwak Shikshan Sanstha, Airoli and it prepares its students for the Central Board of Secondary Education,(CBSE), New Delhi. It is a co-educational school and the medium of instruction is English. The motto of the school is “Mission to Excel". The school strives to maintain the highest standard of content delivery. The director of the school is Dr. Nicholas Correa. The Principal is Dr. Jyoti Nair. There are outstanding facilities for the delivery of excellent academic, cultural, social and sports education.

All safety aspects of the school are well taken care of. There are well-trained security guards at all entrance and exit points. Fire extinguishers are strategically placed on all floors of the school building. Each floor of the building, especially the ones where there are younger children, has a number of women attendants who are always there to provide any kind of help to the students.

Curriculum


The curriculum is designed keeping in mind Indian values and global education scenario. It emphasizes on the overall personality development of children. School places equal importance on both scholastic and co-scholastic competencies of children.

Location


The school is located at Airoli, Navi Mumbai and is easily accessible for people residing in Navi Mumbai as well as Mumbai. The most important landmark here is the Mulund Airoli bridge from where the huge building and campus of the school is clearly visible from afar.

Assessment and evaluation


The school follows the Continuous & Comprehensive Evaluation pattern as prescribed by CBSE. The academic year consists of two terms and each term comprises Formative Assessments (FA) for grade I to III and Formative Assessment (FA) and Summative Assessment (SA) from grade IV onwards. FA comprises of Internal assessment based on class work, worksheet, projects, analytical skills, class participation, communicative skills etc. Formative evaluation is very friendly and most of the time, children don't realize that they are assessed. This system of evaluation is very student friendly and takes away their examination fear.

School achievements


Numerous opportunities are provided to students to take part in various competitions and many students have bagged various awards for competitions in elocutions, debates, creative writing, dramatics etc. conducted at school level, local level, district level, state level and national level.

Admission process


The admission process is simple and quick. Parents have to fill up an admission form and submit it to the school. Parents are then intimated of the date when the student needs to appear for a written exam. The written test is only for students applying to grade II and above. For anything below grade II, there's just an informal chat with the parents and the child. No assessment of any kind is conducted for the child.

Academics


There are weekly interactive sessions for all classes. Students of all divisions of a particular class come together where they share their views on a particular topic for that week. Various activities are conducted to make the subject easy and lucid.

The school provides education from Nursery to grade X. There is also another wing to the school building where management studies are conducted too.

The student teacher ratio is 1:30 and there are many divisions for each grade. The system of allotting marks is completely done away with and academics follow the grading system.

Competitive Examinations


The school conducts various competitive examinations like NCSC, NCO, NSO, IAIS, IMO, IPM, ASSET, NSTSE, Dr. Homi Bhabha Bal Vaigyanik competition, SPELLBEE, etc to promote scientific temper, power of reasoning etc among children.

Co-curricular and extra curricular activities


In order to promote healthy eating habits and balanced diet among children, Food day is celebrated once every month when the students have to carry the prescribed healthy food in their lunch boxes. Interactive discussions are held regarding the benefits of that particular food.

The school regularly organizes field trips, plantation drives, nature trails, yoga sessions, music lessons etc as a part of its co-curricular activities.

School Clubs


All the students will be a part of any one of the following club :
Literary Club, Science Club, Sports Club, Math Club, Cultural Club, Press Club, Nature Club.

Student Council


The school promotes children to be independent and inculcate a sense of self discipline and self-governance by appointing a Student Council. The students are given the freedom to elect their representatives through secret ballot on the election day.

Students are members of 4 houses : Sapphire (Blue), Emerald (Green), Ruby (Red), Coral (Yellow). All competitions like sports, debates, group discussions etc are conducted House-wise. House points are announced every month and House Cup is awarded to the House with maximum points for that academic year.

Parent teacher interaction


Parent Teacher Interactions (PTI) are organized every month and the dates for the same are decided in advance for the whole academic year.PTI provides opportunities for the parents to meet the teachers and track the child's progress, strengths and weaknesses.

Infrastructure and facilities


The school building has five floors. There are a dozen or more classrooms in each floor. The classrooms are spacious with plenty of natural light and fresh air. The lobby area in each floor is huge with the walls adorned with projects, drawings etc prepared by students. There is a computer lab room with around 40 computers and here, 2 students share a computer. There is a huge activity hall where special activities like chess, folk dance, aerobics, skating, karate, music, yoga etc are conducted to do away with the fatigue of regular subjects. Science labs for physics, chemistry and biology are spacious and well equipped with the necessary apparatuses.

There is a separate assembly hall where daily assembly is conducted and is also sometimes used for other activities like karate, conducting competitions, auditions etc.

The school organizes various exhibitions in its huge campus like Go-Green-My planet, Geographica, Math-e-magica, budding artists etc. These activities provide a wide spectrum of opportunities to students to illuminate their hidden talent.

First Aid – health care centre


First aid kits are well maintained in the health care centre where any minor cuts and bruises can be treated.

School Library


The school boasts of a huge library where books, periodicals and reference materials like Encyclopedias, dictionaries and magazines are well maintained.

Bus service


The school provides excellent bus service from convenient routes. Routes are well-designed. Great care is taken when ferrying the children. There are special care takers on the buses too. The windows of all the buses are grilled so that children do not put their hands or heads out of the bus. Female attendants are always present on all the buses.

School timings


The school timings are 7.45 AM to 2.00 PM for all grades.

School fees


For existing students, the school fees for one academic year are to be paid in three installments during April, August and December. New admissions could cost higher. Kindly contact the school office for the revised fee structure. The school fees does not include the cost of uniforms, shoes /socks, the cost of books and stationary and bus fees. These have to be paid separately at the time of admission.
