South Indian Education Society High School, Mumbai Review

Overview

The South Indian Education Society school, better known as SIES School, celebrated its platinum jubilee in 2007. One of the many academic institutes of learning established by the South Indian Education Society, the school has classes from kindergarten to class X. There are no classes for XI and XII. The child's education is considered value for money as the school charges only the basic fees for educational material & no tuition fees at all (see the fee structure at the end of this review).

The SIES School, Matunga is an English medium school for both boys & girls. The curriculum is of the Maharashtra State Board, S.S.C. & it is a recognized school. Presently there are over 4000 students.

Other than being well-known for its unique student-centric education & sports activities, the school is also reputed for its academics & other achievements. In the last academic year, 27% of its Class 10 students got 90% & above at the annual S.S.C. Board exams, while 86% got distinction. Last year, too, at a prestigious science exhibition two of its students were selected for an award for their project on biodiversity.

The school has qualified counselors to help kids with special needs & learning disabilities. A student who is weak in studies is also given special attention by the teachers.

Academics at SIES School Mumbai

At the pre-primary level education is imparted to the approximately 500 students keeping in mind that the student is first (known as “shishu pahel"). With this aim, the children themselves can plan their activities. 2 teachers supervise the child's activities in each classroom, which is equipped with learning tools & toys for art, puzzles and general play. The tiny tots learn how to plan, how to greet each other, how to maintain cleanliness, etc even as they enjoy fun activities like recitation of nursery rhymes, singing, drawing, clay-modeling, etc. The most cheerful student in the pre-primary class gets a special award at the end of the year!

The primary level classes are from Std.I to Std.IV. The teachers plan the weekly lessons as per the syllabus. They have to incorporate the use of teaching aids and audio visual tools to teach and assign projects to the students from time to time. All teachers must go through refresher training programs to be updated with any changes in the syllabus.

Students who are very good in academics can avail of special coaching in the school's scholarship classes for appearing for the talent examinations conducted by the Government of Maharashtra. Special guidance is also given by the teachers for students of the Xth Standard for their final year Board exams.
