Introduction
Malabar engineering college is started functioning in the year of 2009. MCET is promoted by the trust named IQRA educational and charitable trust. They have started the college with a vision of developing good and skilled engineers from various trades, and they will be a good asset to the society. Mr. K.S. Hamza is the chairman and the governing body of this college.
Location
The college is spread over 10.6 acres of land at a small village named Pullur, near Wadakancherry via Cheruthuruthy in Thrissur district and Kerala state. The college is situated about 8 Km from Shornur railway station and 36 km from Thrissur railway station. So the students from distant place can use the opportunity to travel to the college. The students can easily accessible to college through frequent city buses and also through college bus.
Course offered
The Malabar College of engineering and technology offers the following six courses in B tech with an intake of 60 students in each branch. 1)Applied Electronics & Instrumentation 2)Computer Science And Engineering 3)Electronics and Communication Engineering 4) Automobile Engineering 5)Civil engineering 6)Mechanical Engineering The courses in this college are approved by All India council for Technical education. The college is affiliated to University of Calicut.
Admission and fee structure
To get the admission in the college, the student should pass in the higher secondary level examination with minimum mark prescribed by the University of Calicut. And also appear in the entrance exam offered by the state Government of Kerala and secured a position in rank list. The college has allotted seat as 50 % to Government merit, and other parts are management seats. The student who didn't attend in the entrance exam conducted by the state government can apply for NRI seat. There is 9% of seats are available for NRI category in the college. The applicant should bring the original copies while taking the admission. They should verify the document and the selected candidate will get the admission letter from the college. Fees for this institution are according to the Government order. The management fees are higher than that of the merit fees. It is more than 100000 per year. Student should remit some amount as caution deposit, which will be refundable.
Infrastructure facilities
The college management has provided a good infrastructure facility for the aid of students. This will include library, labs, class rooms, transportation etc.
Library
Malabar College of engineering and technology has vast collection of books in their library. It is about more than 6000 volumes in 1500 titles. The student should bring the library card for taken the book from library. The institution do not provides the books for the student with out the display of the library card. The library consists of different journals from India and foreign countries.
Labs
The college has good lab facilities for different branches. This will include the labs for computer science, electronics and communication, mechanical engineering etc. The management has tried to bring most of the modern facilities for the children to show their talents in the academic level. The institute has got well able lab instructors and assistants. They are always with students to help in the various difficulties.
Teaching
The college has got good teachers with efficient skills to take class. But some of them are have only bachelor degree. Any how they are taking class in an efficient way. And students feel free to ask any doubt to them. The teachers of this institution are very much friendly with the students, so that it will create a good and calm atmosphere and relation between them. The teachers sometimes demand to the students to take class and seminar. This will help them to give self confidence and to avoid the stage fear. The college has used LCD Projectors for the aid of taking class.
Hostel
The college has separate hostel facilities for both boys and girls. The students can take the admission to the hostel at the time of joining the college. The student should remit fees of Rs 5000 as a deposit at the time of taking admission in the hostel. This deposit should be refundable. The student should remit the fees of rent mess etc before 5 th day of each month. Normally a hostler allowed to go for home only once in a month. There are 120 intake is available in both the hostels.
Transportation
The college has provided good transportation facilities for the children. They have number of buses which is covered most of the major routes around the college. Student should take bus pass for travelling in college bus, otherwise they will get punishment and also get heavy fine. Students can also reach the college through line buses.
Canteen
College has good canteen facility. And the canteen provides good and delicious food for the students. Staff can also take food from the canteen. The college canteen has more than 100 seating capacity at a time. College canteen is functioned during the working days and working hours of the college.
College association
Malabar College of engineering has active students associations under various branches. The college encourages the co- curricular activities of the students. There are so many functions are conducted under the supervision of various association of the college. Not only in the college level but also in inter collegiate level.
Discipline
The college has tried to make a good disciplined atmosphere in entire college. Students are compelled to wear proper uniform and wear identity card to enter in the class. Dress code should be made properly to enter in the college. The college has formed anti ragging cell to reduce the problem regarding ragging activity. The institution provides punishment for the students who are break the rules and regulation of the institution.
College timing
The college is functioning on the week days Monday to Friday. Students should not allowed to enter in the college after 9 am and not allowed to exit from the college before 4 pm. There is a lunch break held on 12.15 to 1.15. And also small duration's intervals are there in morning and evening session. Visitors are not allowed during the class time in this college.
