Techno Model School - Garia, Garia Review
INTRODUCTION:
I have been in this school for the past 2 years, that is after my boards exam, i enrolled for the plus two course(XI & XII).
These two years in the school has given me quite a knowledge about this school. At first everything seemed nice, a warm welcome, the seniors were friendly too.
I have chalked out a few important points regarding the school which needs to be known by those who are interested.
INFRASTRUCTURE AND SURROUNDINGS:
The infrastructure is top notch.Chemistry laboratory, Physics laboratory and Computer laboratory is very well designed for the convenience of students as well as teachers.There is a ground to play all sorts of outdoor games like football cricket and basketball. There are also facilities for indoor games like table tennis.But chances of indulging in sports activities is very less.There is a good resourceful library too. The building is surrounded by greenery in all sides. It is very pleasant and silent, as it is away from the noise pollution of the main roads. To all students disappointment there is no food stalls or grocery shop nearby or any place for students to go out and have a bite after the school ends. We have to go a long way to get into a proper food shop.
ACADEMICS:
Talking about academics, it is a mixed bag. First of all there system of education is very strange.From nursery to a certain class they have Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board and again for class XI-XII they have West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education(WBCHSE) board. The physics department is best among the science group.Chemistry faculty is not that good and maths section is highly dis-oriented.I bet there is no school in Kolkata where the teachers of the school gives notes to the student, thus helping us not to be reliant on coaching notes.To prepare us for the competitive exams, online and offline mock tests were taken, which were helpful. In our times the teacher of the maths department kept on changing, and there way of teaching was also different.So, we had a lot of problem and to be honest,this school has a bad record in the maths examinations especially, and it is said by our very own teacher.Once, a maths teacher got so irritated, that he left this school and went on for another school.Some teachers have a problem in their way of talking and behaving with students, for which many complaints have been launched to the principal, over the years, yet no action has ever been taken.Students here get typecasted very fast.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
If you like to indulge yourself into extra-curricular activities, then this is the best school for you. Different type of exhibitions based on computer, english, vernacular, chemistry, maths and physics keep on happening.Drama, dance, singing, sports, march past, everything happens here all the time. This is a again a bit irritating, because it happens all throughout the year and sometimes it becomes mandatory to take part in it, even if you do not want to.Once, we 10 students objected in taking part, but were forced to do as they said.
RULES AND DISCIPLINE:
The school authorities try to show their stand in disciplines and principles but it never lasts for long. The day starts with a long prayer, followed by the school anthem at times.The worst is we had to stand out in the open even on hot humid days for 10-13 minutes,without any kind of shade.The only good part about it is, that Indias national anthem is to be sung each and every day.Another thing which is good is, whenever a new teacher comes to join, he has to give a demo class to the students as well as the teachers in one classroom.
CONNECTION BETWEEN STUDENTS,TEACHERS AND SCHOOL:
It is absolutely bad. Due to lack of a good and stable system, there are many differences between students and teachers, and even teachers with teachers. A Sir walks into the class the very first day and starts talking all negative about a certain educational field, only because he does not belong to that field.We have heard and seen many cold tussles between teachers. We can say, we students of commerce, pure science and eco-science have a more strong bond between us than those few teachers.
ABOUT THE PRINCIPAL:
Principal sir, MR. Nandi, is very friendly with the students and also kind hearted. He genuinely tries a lot to motivate his students and wants to take his school to the top.
He has many times called many noteworthy people to school just to have a chat with the students, so that we get influenced and act accordingly.
FINAL VERDICT:
To be honest,there was one point of time when we just felt like leaving this school and thought that we had made our lives greatest mistake by getting into this school.Starting from pathetic transport facility to being in the classroom, everything made us repent. Coming to this school, opened my eyes to the world of politics.This was the situation in 2012 and i do not know how it will turn out to be in near future.
