Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)'s are premier government institutions in India setup by the Government in order to provide high quality technical education to the students and provide good engineers to the country. Government decided to establish such institutions in the year 1946 and Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay is second institute of its kind. It is one of the old institutions in India established in the year 1958 with an annual intake of 100 students. Now it was turned into the one of best institutions in the world with annual intake of thousands of students and giving high quality education to them. Parliament had described the IITs as the Institutes of National Importance and IIT Bombay is the first institute in the country to form with the foreign collobaration with USSR. It was given the university status and allowed to award degrees by itself. The establishment of the college had taken place with the help of funds given by UNESCO. USSR had provided its assistance by sending several experts to the Bombay for the development of institution. Its main Vision to became the main home for research and technological development of the nation.
Location and Infrastructure
IIT Mumbai is located in the area of Powai just beside the beautiful Powai Lake. The view of Powai lake makes the location even more beautiful. College campus is spread over 500 acres with full of greenery beside the beautiful lake. It is one of the best colleges in the world. It has over 14 hostels for students to stay and some more are going to come which can accommodate over 400 people. Some apartments are also available for PG students and for PH.D students who lives with their families. Each hostel has its own facilities like mess, sports etc. Canteens are open available even nights upto 2.AM. A theatre is also there near to the college. Hostel no 7 is most special hostel among all of them because of the lake side view. There is big Gym available for students to do their exercises. Each hostel is also equipped with separate library and Each room has the LAN facility which provides high speed internet facility. However the academic area is connected with high speed Wifi. Intranet facility is also available to share some important files quickly. A big Central library was there available for students for most of the times with thousands of volumes of books and many research publications. There are many e-journals and other things available for students to improve their knowledge.

Faculty and Facilities
As it is the best college in the country, every faculty is highly qualified and PH.D is the compulsory for the faculty that too from an IIT or from a big university. The Students are also highly talented as the top rankers of the country join the institute. The study environment is also very nice. Hostel and College are always open and students are free to do their work. No restrictions are levied on them. As I already said it is the best college, the lab facilities are always at best and research is always encouraged and being done in the college, that's why it had become the best college of the country.
Placements and Fests
IIT Bombay organizes the biggest fests in the country and even the students from other continents participates in those fests. The cultural fest organized in the campus is “Mood Indigo" popularly called as “Moodi" which has a very wide participation from students of whole country and even from other parts of the world. The technical fest organized was the “Tech fest" which is one of the best technical fests in the world.
Regarding placements, as it is the best college in the country the students of the college are also placed in the best MNC's with high packages. Many top IT MNC's like Samsung, Google, come to these colleges to recruit top students of the country. Many companies in all the fields visit this college that too offering some awesome salary packages. The Alumni of this college is a full of highest talents , some are the central minister Jairam Ramesh, Nandan Nilekani who is the co-founder of Infosys and present chairman of UIDAI project.

Every year thousands of people dream to join IIT Bombay and that says the value of the college. It has been one of the nations premier institution which had been produced many eminent leaders to the country like Nandan Nilekani, Jairam Ramesh etc. Main reason behind the success of the students studying there is not only because of top students entering the college but also the freedom, knowledge, facilities for research and also the encouragement to the rising young brains.
Final word is “IIT Bombay" is the top college in the world and no one in the country should have a second thought if they got chance to join in that college. If you want to join in that college, you have to work very hard and had to top in the Entrance examinations.
