Kanyapur Polytechnic, Burdwan Review
The Kanyapur Polytechnic College is also known as KP or KPC among its students. It's a govt. sponsored Polytechnic college in Asansol, West Bengal. It's under West Bengal State Council of Technical Education or WBSCTE.
RecognitionThe Kanyapur Govt. Polytechnic college is approved by AICTE and WBSCTE. Students from this college are treated in respectful manner by the industries.
LocationIt is around 5kms from the Asansol City Bus Stand or around 6.5km from the Asansol Railway Station. It is located near the Jubili Petrol Pump, near the NH2 bypass, distance being around 2.5km from Asansol Engineering College. To reach to the college, one can take any minibus from Asansol City Bus Stand which goes to NH2 Bypass, like Chittaranjan, Maithon, Gourandi, Ethora routes buses, fare 6rs. Another option is to get CNG auto also from Asansol, fare 8rs. Ask to get down at "Technical More". Beside Kanyapur Polytechnic, there is Kanyapur ITI College.
The campusThe campus is large (see my uploaded photo). It has two buildings, the outer building houses the computer lab & vocational studies. The inner building houses the diploma college & its facilities. On the right hand side we have workshops. At the back right section of college we have the students hostel.
Courses OfferedThis college offers 3 diploma engineering courses-
1. Diploma in Computer Science & Technology(DCST)
2. Diploma in Mechanical Engineering(DME)
3. Diploma in Electrical Engineering(DEE)
Admission ProcessTo study in this college, one has to clear the JEXPO exam, which is the Joint Entrance Examination for Polytechnic. Forms for JEXPO are sold from January of each year & exams commence in May of the same year.
The FacultyThe college has one of the best faculty in whole West Bengal. Among teachers, most of them are having Masters Degree in respective field. They explains subjects in lucid manner. If any student can't understand a topic, they are happy to explain it to the student after the class to interested students.
Labs & WorkshopsThere are 2 computer labs in the college equipped with broadband internet connection. There is also one Electronics lab, Chemistry lab, Physics lab, Machines lab, Power Systems Lab, Switch Gear & Protection lab, Electrical Machines lab, Networking lab.
As for workshops, we have - Fitting Workshop, Welding Workshop, Carpentry Workshop,Machine Workshop,Foundry Workshop, Electrical Wiring Workshop.
The libraryThe library has plethora of books on technical subjects for all trades. The drawback, however, is lack of common books which are needed by more than two trades in same semester, like- the Microporcessor Interfacing, which is a common subject to both CSE and DEE.
The canteenUnfortunately, the college does not have any sponsored canteen. The canteen is operated by a local entrepreneur, but lacks frequency of opening and variety of foods. Just outside the college, though, there is a hotel where you can get variety of snacks & lunch.
FacilitiesThe college has one common room for students in outer building, providing indooor games such as table tennis, carom etc. There is also a students' union room in main building, having sports equipment.
The hostelThe college also provides hostel facilities to boys only at a nominal fees.
