Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Malappuram(JNV Malappuram) is situated on a hilly region known as Oorakam about 15 km away west from the Malappuram town. The place is totally separated from the major roads and traffic which provides pollution free environment, calm and silent surroundings to the students. The school has been established by the central government under ministry of human resource and development. Every districts in almost every states have got Navodaya Vidyalayas across the country except in the state Tamil Nadu, which doesn't hold any JNV's.
This is a fully residential school and no day scholars are allowed. All the students have to stay in the provided hostels and paying guests are also not allowed. All the teachers, staff members and other workers are provided with separate quarters also.
The school is affiliated to CBSE and offers classes from VI to XII standard. The students are selected based on the entrance exams conducted by the school itself and top talented 80 students are picked up from each districts. 75% students are selected from rural ST/SC group and 5% seat reservation is for girls.
Unlike any other school, our school is unique in its fee structure and facilities. The school provides hostel facilities, food, books, uniforms and other requirements totally free for all the students inhabiting there. Not a penny is required for the girls from the beginning till the end of their school life. In case of boys under general category, Rs.200/month is remitted as the fee after their VIIIth standard.
There are approximately 480 students studying here and the school provides hostel facilities for all of them. Four separate hostels (namely Aravali, Nilgiri, Shiwalik and Udaigiri) are there for both boys and girls. Each hostel has got a house master and he/she ensures the safety and security of the students living in it.
The school provides well equipped lab facilities (computer, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics labs) for the students. For developing creative ideas and thoughts, an art room and SUPW room are provided in one corner. A huge vast playground is situated right at the middle of the campus. It provides the students with games such as football, volleyball, cricket, basketball, handball etc which ensures the health and well being of the students. Moreover traditional yoga practices, karate, judo and gymnastics are also being trained by professional trainers to the students.
The school provides a unique migration system to some students of IXth standard for a period of one year. 15% students are selected randomly and are given a chance to migrate to JNV Allahabad and same number of students from there are shifted back to our school too. It is to promote nation integration across the country.
The school authorities have a keen interest in organizing different functions and programs beneficial for the students. The school celebrates Annual day, Sports day, Independence day, Republic day, Rakshabhandan, Environment day etc every year.
