Arya Central School, Trivandrum Review
I joined Arya Central School for my 11th and 12th grade after passing CBSE 10 boards with 10 CGPA. The admission process itself is very prejudiced. New admissions for 11th std is given only if you score above 90% in ICSE or 10 CGPA in CBSE syllabus. This fools a lot of parents and make them believe "only the best students" study there and the "best teachers" help them with their academics. This is entirely false. The bio maths stream of class 11th and class 12 has pathetic teachers, especially for Physics and Maths. The teachers are very partial to bonafide students of ACS and new students are often ignored or given very little attention. There are few teachers who are constant nightmares to children, especially one teacher of the Chemistry department who humiliates children who score less marks academically. Apart from poor teaching quality, the teachers offer very less moral support to the students. The faculty are still in the previous century unaware that the world has changed. Any student who has an open mind and is outspoken is criticized and isolated by the teachers.
ACS is a good place if you are looking for an Engineering or Medicine degree. This is because all the 10th Std top scorers come to ACS and therefore there is a huge competition that will motivate you to work hard. The school also organises its entrance oriented monthly tests for interested students. Anyone who wishes to lead a bookworm life will enjoy their life in ACS. The school focuses only on academics and there are no extra curricular activities. The play ground looks like a small plot of discarded barren land where only boys are allowed to play. Girls play in the school parking lot where there is very little space. The school library is average and does not house a good collection. Annual Day and Onam are the only 2 festivals celebrated in school and they are both pathetic.
Boys and girls are separated in an unhealthy manner at school - separate stairs for girls and boys and separate school assembly areas exist. Most of the students who have studied there have a very conservative attitude. All they care for is scoring high marks in exams. The computer labs for juniors and seniors is really good. So is the biology and chemistry lab. Physics lab has the facilities but the faculty at the lab does a poor job in explaining what to do.
There is no hostel facility. But the school is situated in a very convenient and accessible location. There is no place for getting snacks and refreshments. There is just one coffee machine and tea and coffee is available. However, there is a canteen for lunch and very healthy tasty homely food is served (veg only) for a reasonable price. The school authority is very old fashioned and superstitious. For example, you can't use a black ink pen to write notes or exams in school. They consider it bad luck!!
I hope you got the idea as to how Arya Central School really is. And yeah forgot to mention people mockingly call the school as Arya Central Jail.
