Birla Vidyamandir is residential senior secondary school for boys. The school was established in 1947 under the able guidance of Indian freedom fighter, Govind Ballabh Pant and patronage of industrialist, G. D. Birla.
The school is situated in Nainital on a hill called Sher-ka-Danda. The school is affiliated to CBSE Board. The school also facilitates training programmes to help students for Engineering, Medical, CA and NDA entrance examinations.
The classes in Birla Vidya Mandir are from classes IV to XII and comprises of about 800 students. The school is open for admissions in all classes except for classes X and XII depending on the vacancies.
The school tries to impart learning skills and is an example of a perfect blend between Indian culture and modern times. Inspite of the medium of instruction being English, prayers in Sanskrit are offered daily. As suggested in the list of objectives, the school strives to create morally strong and socially responsible individuals. The teachers are still addressed as Gurujis and Didijis.
Birla Vidyamandir has active participation in inter-school tournaments in sports like football, basketball and cricket. There is also a NCC division in the school.
