The R A Podar College of Commerce and Economics is one of the most prestigious colleges in Mumbai and, in fact, is one of the top colleges in the commerce stream. Although the college was established in the early 1940s, it got affiliation to the University of Mumbai in 1950. It has acquired the A Grade from NAAC and has gained a reputation of having the best Commerce Professors at the senior level in Mumbai.

Campus: The college campus is expansive with a computer-aided library and a central computer lab with nearly 50 computers. In this lab, students can also avail of internet and printing facilities. You can even enrol for short-term computer courses at this lab. The computer center timings are from 7a.m. to 5.30p.m.
The library has a vast collection of books and journals, as well as audio and video tapes and maps. There is a separate reading hall area. The library even has its own library blog! Library timings: 8a.m. to 4.30p.m.
There is a very large main hall where not only formal gatherings are held, but also informal events during the college festival are conducted. Students can also enjoy indoor games like badminton & table tennis and practice their judo & boxing skills. The college cricket team is well known in inter-collegiate tournaments. However, there is no large sports ground on the campus so the college books grounds at various venues in the city. It does, though, have a gymkhana to keep and maintain equipment and here you will see cupboards full of trophies and awards won by the students. Some of the students have excelled in table tennis, badminton, wrestling and swimming events at inter-college events.
In fact, one of the USPs of this college is that it combines academics and co-curricular activities very well.
Co-curricular activities: The college has a number of unique clubs such as the Photography club and the Hikers Club. It also hosts numerous festivals and events during the year. The annual college fest is named Enigma, which attracts large crowds and participants from other city colleges. In addition, there is a literary festival called Rostrum Spectrum which is generally hosted in September. Another well-known fest is the sports-cum-cultural-cum-fine arts event called Rapport.
As for fun things to do, well the college canteen, as in any college, is the place to be to have fun! It is the Chinese food which is the most popular, but students also love to snack out at the neighbouring eat-outs such as Snow Point and DPs, not to mention gorging on the sandwiches sold by a vendor outside the gates.
Support for students: The college sends profiles of students to companies through its placement cell. It provides good support to all students, whether in encouraging sports or providing placements. There are even aptitude tests and workshops to unearth the talents of students through the self-development cell and a separate womens development cell.
