Every Indian well known the great Indian patriotic leader Desbandhu Chittaranjan Dass name. Basanti Devi was the wife of that great person.The college has been named after Basanti Devi (1818-1972), who was a champion of womens education.
Basanti Devi College as an institution of higher education. Basanti Devi College Kolkata is a premier college offering undergraduate courses for decades. Its a girls college affiliated to the University of Calcutta. Basanti Devi Girls College was founded on 5th August 1959.
Basanti Devi College offers a wide variety of choices where graduation is concerned! The line of city people to make it through this college is SO long!! Most of believe in talking in local languages…you'll hear a lot of Bangla and Hindi on campus.
Through the years of its existence, young girls from the adjoining urban, sub-urban and rural areas have benefited from this college, thereby producing a generation of culturally enriched self reliant women. It is worth mentioning that the students have distinguished themselves in academic, administrative and cultural spheres and have been motivated enough to venture into self-employment and entrepreneurship. Consequently, the current student population of the college has many role models to emulate in these spheres.
Basanti Devi College, through the years, has been fortunate to build up a congenial intellectual and cultural ambience by the concerted effort of the academic and the administrative staff under the able guidance of past and present principals. Beginning with only a few undergraduate programmes, the college has expanded considerably. Presently college is offering seven B.A (Honours) subjects in humanities and social sciences and five B.Sc (Honours) subject in sciences. Moreover, in addition to it, B.A (General) and B.Sc (General) subjects are also offered.
