Thejus Engineering College, Thrissur Review
Introduction
Thejus College is run by the Cheruvathoor Foundation. The college is started functioning in the academic year 2009-2010 and affiliated to University of Calicut, approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and sanctioned by Govt. of Kerala. Being a new born institution that works well with the students and staff, Thejus now stands as a prestigious institution among various colleges under Calicut University. There are 4 branches on the time of starting they are Electronics and communication engineering, Civil engineering, Computer science engineering, Electrical and electronics engineering. After one year there is new branch started Mechanical engineering.
Location
The college is situated in 10.5 acres of land at Vellarakkad, on 8 KM from Kunnamkulam on Kunnamkulam- Wadakkanchery highway in Thrissur District. The cultural capital Thrissur is just 22 KM from the college. Students can take bus from in front of the college itself. And there are also college buses available for the student who is interested to go through it.
Infrastructure
The college has moderately good infrastructure. And the remaining work is going on in the college. Some infrastructural features are described below.
LIBRARY:
The College has a good library consisting of vast number of collection of books of national and international authors. The library is fully furnished with a reading room capacity of 100 students. And it is open from 9.15 am to 4.15 pm. Students can take book according to the library card they have. A student has 3 library cards. If a student loses this card, he pays charges of RS 50 for the card as a fine. Books will be issued for 14 days and if over-due of books RS 2 per day will be charged. There is a digital library is also present in this college.
LABS:
The College has good labs in various fields that help the students for their practical study. The College has computer lab with vast amount of computers and seating capacity of 60 students. And also electrical, electronics, civil, and mechanical engineering labs are there with full equipment. Not only engineering lab but also the science labs are there. Well qualified trainees are taken in all the lab class. And thus provides good guidance for students.
HOSTELS:
The College has separate hostels for both boys and girls in the campus itself. To go outside from the hostel, the student needs prior sanction from the authority. Mobile phone usage is limited in the hostels.
TRANSPORTATION:
The College has regular trips to Thrissur, Irinjalakkuda, Wadakkanchery, Kunnamkulam , Akkikkavu and Guruvayur. There are more than 7 buses available for the trips.
CANTEEN: The College has canteen with large space for accommodating more than 200 students at a time. The food is not at all bad, but not as good in taste. The food though has affordable price as compared to outside hotels.
Functions
Apart from the academic studies, various activities and functions like inauguration of association of various branches were conducted in the years 2009-2010 and continuing now. The college management provides most of the facilities in their ability within the limitation of a new college. The college conducts periodic parent-teacher meetings for a better interaction between the parents and teachers. The college even celebrates Annual Day and Sports Day once in every year and thus encourages the young budding talents by giving them an opportunity to showcase their talents to the public.
Training and placement
The management supports the student in various activities that help for the skill development of the students. They provide free good personality development class and soft skill development class from the external source within the college without taking any fee from the student up to now. They also conduct classes for students to help them to get placement.
Teachers
The teachers of the institute are well experienced and very much friendly with students. So there is a good atmosphere for the students to speak with teachers. They are highly qualified with minimum of master degree except one or two. They are always willing to help the students for clearing their doubts both in college and as well as contact them personally. They behave like friends and thus we can share our personal things also with them. This doesn't means all teachers are like friends to the children - there some exceptions to this.
Discipline
The college discipline is well maintained. Cameras are located in various parts of the college to watch the activity of students. The uniform is strict inside the college. Student must wear ID card inside the campus. Mobile phone strictly prohibited inside the campus. The anti-ragging cell is also maintained well in the college. Those who are involved in such activity get punished & the case is directly brought to the attention of the police.
Arts and sports
Thejus engineering college showed its excellence in both sports and games with full co-ordination of staff and students. Cricket, football, basketball, and volley ball teams were formed in the college. And the participants from this college brought victory to the college both arts and sports festivals. It even releases college magazines from time to time and thereby provides a platform for the young talented writers to contribute their writings and thus helps in improving their writing skills.
College timing
The college timing is starting from 9.15am to 4.20pm. Lunch break is on 12.25pm to 1.10pm. Morning interval is on 11.15pm to 11.25pm and evening interval from 3.10pm to 3.20 pm. There are 6 period in a day and each period is of consist of 1 hour. There is some difference in the timing on Friday. Lunch break is starting from 12.25pmto 1.45pm and the class will end up 4.30pm. Morning section is same as other day. And Saturday and Sunday are holiday for the college.
Some words
The campus is now not a beautiful, since construction works are carried out. I think it will be better in the future. We are the first batch of the institution. As far of my experience the college is a good one for those want to study not for enjoyment. And it is very good college with the support of management and faculty for the student.
