Introduction
Sivaji College of Engineering and Technology is promoted by the Professor V. Jagannatha Panicker Memorial Charitable Trust. Professor Jagannatha Panicker is a good renowned teacher and journalist. The charitable trust was started by his son Mr. Sivaji Jaganathan who was the chairman and managing trustee of the college. The college is started functioning in the year of 2011. Dr. T.R. Sethu Raman is the present principle of this institution, who has more than 18 years of experience in teaching in various engineering colleges and universities in India and abroad.
Location
The college is situated at Manivilai Panchayat in Kanyakumari district at Tamilnadu state.The college is originally located in Amaravila Kunnathukal State High Way near Manivila Post Office. The college is far from the near by cities like Trivandrum by 30 Km, Parassala and Amaravila by 5 Km, Neyyattinkara by 7 Km, Marthandam by 15 Km. Being near to the capital city of Kerala the college has got the well connection by air, road and rail transport facilities. And also which helps to attract the Kerala students to this college, because of being near to the Trivandrum city. The college is spread over more than 13 acres of land at Manivilai panchayat.
Course offered
Sivaji College of Engineering and Technology offers bachelor degree courses in following trades. They are 1) Mechanical Engineering 2) Civil Engineering 3) Electronics & Communication Engineering 4) Electrical & Electronics Engineering 5) Computer Science & Engineering. The courses are approved by AICTE and affiliated to Anna University, Tirunelveli. Each of the branches has 60 seats for intake the students. Each course should conclude in 4 years and 8 semesters.
Admission and Fees structure
As per the Government rule students who are requiring admission in this college should be fulfilled the following eligibility criteria. Student should pass in HSC in academic or in HSC in vocational stream or in any other equivalent qualification on relevant subject that are approved by the Tamilnadu HSC board. Also student should have minimum percentage on the Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry according to various categories listed below:
- General: 50% and above
- Backward Class including Backward Class Muslim: 45 % and above
- MBC & DNC: 40% and above
- SC/ST: mere pass
Student will get the application form from the office by paying 200 Rs as charge, or it can be downloaded from online. After duly filled the application should return to office. After verifying the application they will send the admission letters to the selected students. Selected student should submit the relevant data and documents and remit the prescribed fees in the office.
Fees structure for each course is under the guidance of state government and it is changed time to time. The college charged hostel fees as listed below: The student should remit Rs 500 as a one time deposit to take admission in the hostel. Hostel fees for the one year are Rs 8000 and hostel mess deposit is Rs 4000.
Infrastructure facilities
The college has infrastructure facilities including laboratories, library, IT resources, hostel facilities, transportation, canteen etc.
Laboratories
The college having laboratory facilities to cater the practical training needs of students. This will include chemistry laboratory, physics lab, computer lab, drawing hall, and workshop. It is not well furnished, anyhow not at all bad. Also there is a good language lab is present in the college to aid the student to communication.
Library
The college has vast library collection with collection of about 5000 titles of books on various fields like engineering, science, humanities and management disciplines. Students as well as teachers use this library for the reference for the study. The library is opened during the working day hours between 9 am to 5 pm.
Hostel facilities
This college has separate hostels for both boys and girls. The management provides most of the provisions for the students to good residing. The college also provides hostel mess for the students.
Canteen
The college has well functioned canteen facilities. Students and teachers can depend on this canteen to have lunch and other small snakes. The food they are providing is having moderate taste.
Transportation
The college offer good transportation facilities for the students with number of fleet of vehicles which will pass through all the major routes to ensure the students to get good transportation facilities. The student can also take regular bus for the transportation.
Career guidance
The college offer good career guidance for the students. They have conduct good seminars and communicating skill development class. They have made an agreement with most of the industry to conduct the placement in this college.
