Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering, Pennalur Review I am a student of BE Automobile Eng at SVCE. I joined the college in 2010. SVCE has been rated as one of the top 5 engineering colleges in TN for the past few years, but in my opinion the standard of the college has started to decline of late. Most of the experienced teachers in the college have left and there are very few who have 10+years of experience. Campus placements is nothing special only 5% of the students get placed in top/core companies the rest only get software jobs in TCS, Infosys etc. Even though the college has excellent lab facilities the number of student projects is very low, most students dont get a chance to participate in any extra-curricular project work till their final year.
The college is also very strict and very little freedom is given to the students. The only good thing about the place is that the dress code for guys lets you wear jeans without shirt tucked in. Hostel accomodation will not be provided to students who have arrears as the number of available rooms is low.
Also the campus is well built with lots of trees and an excellent cricket ground but again only a few students who got in through sports quota participate actively in sports as the college does not encourage students to take part in sports rather the emphasis is on students to get good GPA and do well in exams.
There is a canteen and an express cafe coffee day inside the campus but both have only average tasting food and are 100% veg only, also the coffee day food is overpriced.
During college hours students will not be allowed to leave campus and getting a gate pass is a very big headache especially for hostel students.
The mechanical,ECE,Automobile and EEE departments are very strict and the teachers there are arrognant and egotistic. The other departments are a little more normal.
