The foundation of the Chinmaya Vidyalaya was started with a yagna conducted by Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda in 1988 at Alappuzha. The organizers had then taken the responsibility to start a CBSE school with the help of Chinmaya Seva Trust, Kerala. The school started in Pazhaveedu on a temporary basis and was then shifted to its newly constructed building at Kalarcode in the year 1992.
Infrastructure and Academics The school is providing all the facilities required for effective learning. The building includes 4 separate blocks - administrative block, library and lab block, kindergarten section and academic block. Talking about academics, the school has 5 main sections as mentioned below:-
Nursery The Nursery section basically includes nursery, lower KG, and Upper KG. The teaching techniques are based on play and learning methods. Various activities are included in the curriculum like Brain gym, nature walks, etc.
Primary The Primary section is from grade 1 to 5 and the students learn English, Hindi, Mathematics, Social Science, General Knowledge, Science and Computers. Sanskrit or Malayalam is included as the 3rd language. Apart from these subjects, the students also learn about Yoga, Gita, and Balavihar during this time.
Middle school It includes grade 6 to grade 8 and the curriculum is almost similar to that of the primary section.
Secondary school 9th and 10th standards come under the secondary school section.
Senior secondary school11th and 12th standards come in the Senior Secondary grade. The students need to choose the stream/group as per their interest. English language is compulsory for all students. Below is the list of available groups at Chinmaya Vidyalaya-
- Group 1- Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Computer Science.
- Group 2- Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology. Students are allowed to take Economics if they do not want to study biology.
- Group 3- Economics, Mathematics, Business Studies, Accountancy, and Informatics Practices
Apart from academics, the school also supports various extra-curricular activities like music, drawing, dance, etc. Facilities for various sports are also available.
