Kendriya Vidyalaya Barnala is located within the premises of the Airforce base in Barnala, Punjab. This centrally funded school was established in the year 1972 and has ever since been providing good value-based education to the wards of defence services personnel and civilians posted in Barnala. The school is CBSE affiliated and is amongst the best schools in the region. The school is located on 6 acres of land. It functions from classes 1 to 12 and is coeducational. As in other Kendriya Vidyalayas, both English and Hindi are used as the medium of instruction. Up to class 10, the syllabuses are common. But from class 11, the students can opt for the science or the humanities stream. The subjects available for the science stream are English, physics, chemistry, math, biology, Hindi and computer science. English, physics and chemistry are the compulsory subjects, whereas two more subjects are to be chosen from the rest. For the humanities or the arts stream, the students have the subjects English, economics, history, Hindi, geography and math. The first three subjects are compulsory.
Infrastructure and facilities KV Barnala has usual facilities like library, computer labs, science labs, resource rooms, E-class rooms and staff rooms. As part of ICT infrastructure, the school has a good number of computers, broadband internet connectivity, LCD projectors and interactive smartboards. The school has facilities for online payment of fees. Facilities for sports like volleyball, football, basketball, handball, table tennis and kho-kho are available with the school. Cultural activities are a regular feature of this school and events like Annual Day, Annual Sports Day, Independence Day and Republic Day are celebrated with much fanfare.
Admissions Admissions at any Kendriya Vidyalaya is as per the guidelines of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, a government body that regulates the functioning of all KVs. The advertisement for admissions is released in the last week of February every year. For admission to class 1, parents have to first register their child by the month of March. Depending upon the admission norms, lists of selected candidates are released one by one. Admissions to class 2 and above depend upon the availability of seats and are done from the month of April onwards. Class 11 admissions are done as late as the end of June. - Dhruv
