One amongst the notable schools under the Delhi Public School Society, which has hundreds of schools in and around India, DPS Amritsar is a school with the most modern infrastructure and facilities. Founded in 2003 in Amritsar, Punjab, it makes use of a balanced approach when it comes to choosing between traditions and modernism.
DPS Amritsar is a CBSE-affiliated private school that offers classes from pre-nursery to class XII. It is a day cum boarding school with hostel facilities for the boarders. Even though the school provides the best infrastructure to its students, the fees are quite reasonable, when compared with other private schools of similar stature. For day scholars, the annual fees roughly come around INR 75,000 per month, which however varies from class to class. There are one time charges, which are to be paid only at the time of admission. Apart from these, the students will have to pay for the bus fare, in case they opt to travel by school transport. Depending upon the distance covered, the bus fees comes around INR 2200 to INR 5200 per month.
Infrastructure and facilities As with other DPSes around the country, DPS Amritsar provides a world-class infrastructure. To start with, students have the option of availing hostel facility. The hostel rooms are airconditioned and well-furnished. The washrooms are neat & clean and equipped with hot water geysers. The dining mess attached to the hostel provides nutritious meals that range from a variety of Indian food to Chinese, continental and Italian. Excellent recreational facilities are provided for the hostelers and the activities include, dance, drama, music, art and a lot more. There are specially appointed teams that take care of all such activities.
The school has a well equipped medical aid centre manned with trained staff. In case of emergencies, the patients are sent to the nearest hospitals. The medical centre also keeps a track of the medical record of every student in the school by conducting periodical check-ups. To help the boarders settle down in a new environment, there is a buddy system, where senior students guide and take care of the newcomers. Every other requirement is taken care of for the hostelers. There are facilities like haircutting, tailoring, laundry, shoe mending, plumbing, carpentry, gym, phone booths, reading room and so on. There are games and outdoor activities like Yoga, meditation, aerobics, which one can avail of both in the morning and evening sessions. There is a 24-hour power backup, solar heating facilities and purified drinking water. Round the clock surveillance through CCTV and manual security is maintained at the entire premises of the school.
The school has some high-tech labs like Apple Lab, 3D Lab and Atal Tinkering Lab where the students get the opportunity to experience the latest in digital technology and learning. The library is very well furnished with books and has adequate seating facilities along with a number of computers. Apart from the usual sports like cricket, basketball, volleyball, football and badminton, the school also provides a 6-lane shooting range and a skating rink. There is a very neatly maintained canteen on the school premises, where students, teachers and even visitors can have snacks or meals.
DPS Amritsar conducts a range of activities for its students. There are cultural events, inter-school events, seminars and guest speaking sessions. There are outdoor events like river-rafting, rock climbing and hiking. There are student exchange programmes with schools like Malaspina High School, Canada and the Lords International School, Pakistan. Students and their teachers both get the opportunity to visit and interact with their counterparts in foreign countries.
Admissions DPS Amritsar accepts admissions from pre-nursery onwards. From pre-nursery to class II there are no admission tests. Application forms are available from December onwards for the next academic year. The students are called for an interactive session with the teachers, whereas the parents will be interacting with the principal. Class III onwards, the students have to appear for an admission test, which is held in the month of January or February. The test for a particular class is conducted depending upon the availability of seats. The syllabus of the test will be from the previous class and can be obtained along with the application form. The syllabus is also available on the school website. Those qualifying the written test are then called for an interview.
