Overview Established in 1893, The Sardar Dastur Nosherwan Girls' High School, Pune is a secondary school that offers the State Board curriculum and is under the management of the Sardar Dastur School Trust. An important point to be aware of by parents is that since it is an aided Govt.-recognized educational institute, as per the norms, free education is provided to the girls up to Class 10. This means that they do not have to pay the admission, tuition, and term fees. However, this is applicable only for those whose parents are residents of the State for the last 15 years and who have at least 75% attendance. In the case of siblings, not more than three of the same family can avail of the free education. A unique feature of the school is that the Sardar Dastur Schools Trust, which manages the school, proves a safety insurance policy to all students and staff. Campus infrastructure includes a library, computer labs, science labs, sports facilities for basketball, handball, athletics, etc.
Academics and activities While the school is an English medium, students also learn Hindi and Marathi. The audio-video sessions in the classrooms make learning enjoyable. Students of Class 10 appear for an aptitude test and attend lectures for information on higher studies and career paths. There is also a skill development program that was introduced about five years ago. A school Counsellor helps students to deal with personal problems.
Co-curricular activities at The Sardar Dastur Nosherwan Girls' High School include music and dance, debates, etc. The students participate in inter-House competitions as members of one of four Houses, namely Wadia (Red House), Tata (Green House), Dastur (Yellow House), and Bhabha (Violet House). Educational trips, guest lectures, and community service programs are scheduled from time to time.
Admission procedure Parents have to submit the application form for admission to The Sardar Dastur Nosherwan Girls' High School, Pune at the school office. Those students who are from another State have to submit a school leaving certificate from the earlier school (refer to the school's official website for details). - Vandana
