Overview

Established in 1888 initially in Mumbai, the current campus of J. N. Petit Technical High School was set up in Pune in 1948 and is one of the oldest schools in the city under the management of the N.M. Petit Charity Fund. The school for boys is recognized by the Department of Technical Education, Maharashtra. Classes are from the pre-primary level up to Std. 10. The school follows the S.S.C. State Board curriculum, with English as the medium of instruction. From Class 8 onward, technical subjects are taught. The school's first term is from June to October and the second one from November to May.

Technical subjects

For vocational training of students at J. N. Petit Technical High School, this starting from Class 8, the subjects are:

Students additionally learn paper cutting, drawing etc. The regular workshops are generally scheduled after 3p.m. for students of Class 8 to 10. The additional workshops are from 12 noon to 3p.m. on working Saturdays for Class 10 students only and from 8.30 a.m. to 11.40 a.m. on closed Saturdays for Class 10 students only.

Co-curricular and extra-curricular activities

The school's House system is demarcated as per the names of Indian Leaders. The four houses are Dadabhoy, Tata, Phirozeshaw and Nehru.

With plenty of facilities for games and sports, students of J. N. Petit Technical High School enjoy outdoor and indoor activities. Qualified coaches train them in football, cricket, basketball, athletics and gymnastics. For gymnastics, there is an indoor Gymnasium, where also students are trained in the traditional sport of Malkhamb.
