Besant Theosophical Higher Secondary School (BTHS) was started in the year 1934 by Sri. George Sydney Arundale in remembrance of Dr. Annie Besant. It is a co-educational institution affiliated to the Tamil Nadu state board. BTHS is a government aided institution and it offers education in both Tamil and English medium of instructions. The school offers free education to more than 800 boys and girls and is also a part of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's noon-meal scheme, through which nearly 300 students are given free lunch daily. BTHS has association with Kalakshetra and it encourages the students to participate in activities such as dance, music and sports conducted by the senior students of Kalakshetra's college of fine arts.
InfrastructureBesant Theosophical Higher Secondary School is located at an accessible location and it covers a wide-spread 10 acres land. The classroom blocks are spacious and well-ventilated. The school has well-equipped laboratories for Physics, Chemistry and Computer. A reverse osmosis water plant is installed at the campus to supply pure drinking water to the students. Extensive play field is present inside the school premises providing opportunities to showcase the sports talent of the students.
AcademicsThe school offers education from class I to XII with the primary medium of instructions as Tamil. English medium is offered as an option from class VI to XII. The school follows Tamil Nadu Equity syllabus (samacheer syllabus) till class X. For the primary, middle and high school students, the school provides education in subjects such as Tamil, English, Maths, Computer, Science/EVS and Social.
For higher secondary classes (Class XI and XII), the school follows the Tamil Nadu state board syllabus. The streams that are offered at BTHS for higher secondary classes (English medium) are

ActivitiesIn addition to the formal classroom education, BTHS motivates the students to participate in extra-curricular activities such as dance, music, sports, mass drill and other social responsibility programmes such as JRC, Scouts and Guides.
