Army Public School Samba (APS Samba) is a higher secondary co-ed school that was established in 1977 under the aegis of the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES). Prior to that, it was a Nursery school known as Army Model School established in 1972. With more students enrolling over the years, classes were increased up to Std. 8 and received affiliation with the State Govt.'s J&K Board of Education. It then started classes up to Std. 10 and currently has got provisional affiliation with CBSE up to Std. 12.
Academics and Activities The qualified and experienced staff of APS Samba create a conducive environment for learning in all stages of academics. Alongside the formal syllabus, students receive value-based education as well. Special coaching is provided to students of the higher secondary section to prepare them for competitive exams and a fruitful career ahead. Music, Dance, Art and Craft, and other fields of creative Art are enjoyed by all. To learn beyond the classroom, educational trips are scheduled, as also recreational excursions.
For participation in co-curricular activities to imbibe teamwork and the competitive spirit, students are members of one of four houses, each named after a well-known Indian personality– Teresa, Sarojini, Nehru and Gandhi.
Campus infrastructure Other than science, and computer labs, there is also a lab for Maths and one for Biotechnology. The library is a wealth of learning, with books relevant to every subject, periodicals and newspapers, and educational CDs. Sports facilities are aplenty, for football, basketball, volleyball, hockey, badminton, etc. In fact, the school has a stadium with relevant infrastructure for sports and games. Other facilities include an audio-visual room, music rooms, a multipurpose hall, a canteen serving healthy food and snacks, a stationery shop, a medical room, etc.
Admission procedure Parents seeking admission for their wards to APS Samba should ensure that their wards fulfil the required age criteria as of 30th March of the academic year. Direct Admission for the wards of Army Personnel is on the basis of seat availability. Relevant documents should be attached to the completed application form for admission (the form should be filled up by hand), such as the birth certificate, passport-size photos, mark sheets of the previous school if applicable, etc. The fee for registration, admission fee, security fee, and the annual fees are displayed on the school's official website. - Vandana
