The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kuknoor, set up in 1986, initially started in small premises of a local go-down and over the years has developed with full infrastructure & facilities at its present location.
Infrastructure and facilities It has an Assembly hall, a mess hall where nutritious food is served, and a playground for games & sports. The campus has its own garden and water tank too. Well-maintained dormitories are provided for the students.
Unique features- Teachers of the English department of the school conduct special English-speaking classes for the younger students.
- Staff are sent for training programs to other branches of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya to enhance their computer knowledge and get a good grasp of teaching processes through multimedia facilities.
- Boys Scouts Patrol and Girls Guides Patrol have been started to encourage social activities.
- One of the faculty has been specially trained through a 'green school program' and is now in charge of the kitchen garden where medicinal plants are grown.
AcademicsThe State Board syllabus is followed for students of Classes 6 and 7 and subjects are taught in the regional Kannada language. From Class 8 onward, students are taught in English medium and follow the CBSE Board syllabus. Unit tests are conducted each month to analyze the progress of the students every month. Practice exams are also held to familiarize students with the exam format and with the goal to make them less fearful of appearing for an exam.
Academic results of the school have been good, including for all streams of arts, science, and commerce for the Class 12 exams. Students of the school have also appeared for competitive exams like the Maths Olympiad and participated at the national level in sports events.
Co-curricular activities All students are expected to attend the morning PT classes (5.30 a.m. to 6.00 a.m.) and enjoy sports and games in the evening (5 p.m. to 6 p.m.). Karate and yoga training is also provided. Inter-house contests as well as cultural and literary events are organized on a regular basis. The houses are for both junior and senior sections, with the names of houses related to mountain ranges - Aravali, Nilgiri, Shivalika, and Udayagiri.
Admission process and fees Admission is free at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kuknoor in the initial years up to Class 8. Fees are collected from Class 9 to Class 12 from the general and OBC category students (only from boys) under the Navodaya Vikas Nidhi. The student has to pay Rs. 600 per month or Rs. 7200 per year. The fee is applicable only for boys of the General and OBC category and it is completely free for the SC and ST students as well as for all girls students.
Children in the age group of 9 to 13 years (as of 1st May of the year of admission) get admission to the school at the Class 6 level through the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas Selection Test (JNVST). Students can get admission for Classes 9 and 10 through a regional-level exam or on the basis of marks in the previous qualifying exam. Parents are advised to refer to the 'Admissions' section of the school website or contact the school office directly to know more about the eligibility requirements to gain admission.

The fee structure is slightly incorrect, as it is free initially, but after class 9 there is a need fee for the general and OBC category students (Only for boys) under navodaya vikas nidhi. The students have to pay 600 RS per month or 7200 per year. The fees is applied only to boys of General and OBC category and it is completely free for the SC and ST students as well as for all girls students. These fees is collected from class 9 to class 12. And before class 9 it is completely free for every student.
