Overview Set up in 1969 and managed by the Gurudwara Sikh Sangat, Dunlop, Kolkata, the Khalsa Model Senior Secondary School is a co-educational higher secondary school from Std.1 to Std.12. It has a separate section for toddlers, namely the Khalsa Model Kindergarten School, where parents can seek admission to lower kindergarten, kindergarten and upper kindergarten classes.
Infrastructure and facilities With the Gurudwara as the backdrop, the campus of the Khalsa Model Senior Secondary School has an administrative block with the school office. The classrooms for students are in a separate block. The four-storey building houses a staff room for faculty, a library and a school canteen, as well as science laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Biology subjects. There are more than five thousand books and a large reading room in the library. There are also independent labs for Mathematics and Computers. The computer lab is accessible to students of Std. 2 to 8. Computer Science is an elective subject option for the higher secondary school students of Std.11 & 12.
The campus has a spacious playground for physical development via games and sports.
Activities It is mandatory for all students to participate in a co-curricular activity, such as music and dance, a debate or a quiz. Students get grades for such activities. Competitions are organized between the school houses in the various activities. Students are also selected for participation in inter-school competitions.
Admission process Parents need to pay a registration fee at the time of seeking admission for their wards. Applications are reviewed and admission given strictly on the basis of merit. Once admission is granted, all requisite fees and documents must be submitted at the school office within the deadline given. If the documents are not submitted and/or fees not paid in time, then the admission will be cancelled.
