Abhyasa Residential School was started in the year 1996 and is affiliated with the ICSE and ISC board, New Delhi. It offers education for the students of Grade 4 to Grade 12, along with residential facilities inside the campus. It supports co-education and enrolls only 400 students in a year (including both boys and girls). The campus is occupying around 20 acres of land and is situated in Hyderabad at a distance of 45 kilometers from the main city.
Academic curriculum The school has a pre-defined curriculum as per the age of the students. The students of Class 4 and 5 learn with the help of effective multi-media presentations and the classrooms are well designed to become compatible with this teaching process. They also get to learn about the balance between thoughts and feelings. The subjects included are English, Hindi/ Telugu (2nd language and 3rd language), Science, Social studies, Maths, Computer science, Art and Craft, Music, Dance, Current Affairs, SUPW/ Environmental Awareness, and Library. All these subjects are also given some credits depending upon the hours they are needed to be taught.
For classes 6, 7, and 8, the teaching is based on self-doing and motivates the students to pursue experiments and learn through that. The class teachers encourage healthy discussions, live observations, and hands-on experiences. For this, the school has well-set laboratories for physics, chemistry, biology, and other subjects (if required). The subjects included are English, Hindi/Telugu (2nd language), Geography, History, Civics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths, Computer Science, Art and Craft, Dance, Music, Library, Current affairs, and SUPW or environmental Awareness.
For classes 9th to 12th, the teaching shifts towards individual learning and independently nourishes the skills of students. The teachers support improving their emotional intelligence through various individual projects, seminars, presentations, etc. The subjects for class 9th remain the same except few changes like the option between Maths or Economics and Commercial Applications or Arts. For classes 11th and 12th, students are allowed to choose their stream, either commerce or science. The subjects included in the commerce stream are- English, Commerce, Accounts, Economics, Maths/ CS/ Art/ Sports/ Music, and Library. For the Science stream, the subjects are English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths/ CS/ Art/ Sports/ Music, and SUPW/ environmental Awareness.
Life on campus To support the overall body and brain development, the students have followed a fixed daily schedule that includes sports activities in the morning, breakfast, then school, yoga, prayers, and meditation. For higher classes, there is a facility for coaching classes to prepare the students for various competitive exams.
There are different clubs in the school aimed at different activities including Inter-house games activities, quizzes, competitions related to art and culture, etc. There are Shiva & Shakti houses made for all the classes to develop a healthy competition spirit. The Shiva group has Blue color and the Shakti group has Red colour. Then there is a Prefectural leadership group that motivates the students to take up the leadership roles on various fronts like class, dormitory, house captain, and many more.
The school also has separate faculties for soft skill development of kids that focus on spiritual awareness, mental alertness, etc of the students. This department also supports observation skills, communication skills, time management, understanding of human behaviors, and many other skills that are required to have a successful life.
The school also conducts various outdoor activities. A nature walk is arranged for students once a year during which the students enjoy nature by doing activities like rock climbing, campfires, etc. The picnics for students and parents have also included in the annual activities during which the students take a walk towards a picnic spot near the campus and enjoy various fun games with parents. The field trips are also gets conducted for research projects. Apart from these, trekking camps on Himalaya and educational tours in foreign countries are also the attraction for students.
Admissions For admissions, the interested students need to register themselves. The application form and prospectus need to be collected from the office and then the filled form along with the other documents must be submitted before the last date. At the tie of form and document submission, the registration fee of Rs. 1000/- has to be paid. Once the candidate is registered, the office gives the details about the aptitude test, its syllabus, dates, and procedure to the students/parents. The students can then prepare for the aptitude tests as per their class.
The school conducts separate aptitude tests for all the classes as per the availability of seats. Three rounds of tests get conducted depending upon the seat's availability and after the written aptitude tests; an oral test/interview is also conducted. If the students pass the test, the school informs the parents the same and gives them a letter of admissions on the same day. The parents need to pay the fee within 7 days to confirm their wards admission to the school. Once the fee is paid, the books and other stationery will be given to the students and parents need to submit the original transfer certificate in school. Once all the formalities are done, the students can report to the campus on the date of joining as mentioned in the admission letter.
