About Modern Indian School

The Modern Indian School, Nepal is an English medium school affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Delhi, India. The syllabus is as per the curriculum of the National Council for Educational Research & Training (NCERT), India. The ambassador of India to Nepal is a patron of the school.

Campus infrastructure and facilities

The Modern Indian School is located in Chobhar, approximately 3kms. from Kathmandu. Lovely pine forests form a charming backdrop to this educational institute.

The school's classrooms have plenty of natural light and air. There are labs for the three fields of math, science and computers. The school library is well stocked with over 17000 books. The large grounds of the campus are fully utilized for sports facilities. Medical facilities are provided when required and a qualified counselor is part of the faculty.

Sports facilities are provided for: Athletics and cross country running, football, cricket, basketball, badminton, table tennis, volleyball and throw ball. There are special coaches for learning martial arts, including Karate and Teakwondo. Qualified yoga teachers also conduct yoga classes.

A school bus facility is provided, though preference is given to students of the lower divisions and those who stay further from the school campus. A monthly bus pass is issued for students availing of the facility.


Education is provided from L.K.G. to Std.XI. As part of the academic curriculum, students undertake projects and assignments to apply what they have learned and showcase their creative talent.

Co-curricular activities include competitions between the students of the 4 Houses, which are named after well know mountains, namely Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Gaurishankar and Kanchanjunga. The inter-house competitions include those on dramatics, public speaking, creative art and writing and classical & folk dance and music.

Furthermore, all students must take up at least one form of work experience. They can select from: Dance, music, craft, creative drama, art (includes painting and sketching), yoga, martial art, computers, nature club, gardening, cooking and meal planning, campus cleanliness.

School rules

One of the primary school rules is to be punctual. A student who is late for school can be sent back or fined. If a student does not attend school without a valid reason and proper prior intimation, the student will have to pay a fine of Rs.50/- per day of absenteeism. If the student remains absent for more than a week, his/her name will be struck off the school roll. The student can then get re-admission only on approval by the Principal.

Admission Procedure

Parents should fill in the requisite registration form along with: Parents' profile, 3 passport size photos, Xerox of marksheet of last class attended (this is not required for playgroup and L.K.G. students).

Once the registration forms are submitted, those eligible for admission have to appear for an entrance test and an interview. Admission will then be given on merit and as per seats available. Parents should confirm from the school office which documents are to be submitted once admission is granted. The requisite fee then has to be paid as per the schedule of each billing month. The fees & dues are to be credited to the Nabil Bank, New Road Branch and Kupondole Branch. A fine of Rs.50/- per day is imposed for late payment of fees.
