About Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Nadakkavu

The Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Nadakkavu, Kozhikode is a girls school which has students primarily from lower income families of the region. In the current academic session, there are over 2,000 students.

The PRISM (Promoting Regional Schools to International Standards through Multiple Intervention) project was implemented in this school in 2013. Private stakeholders provide funds for the project, which aims at infrastructure development and improving the academic level of educational institutions.

Academics and co-curricular activities

The school offers high school education since 1942 and the vocational training sections was started in 1990. The school has a NSS unit with about 50 students. The clubs include an astronomy club and an entrepreneurship club. A career counselling program is organized for students in their final years. Students can enrol for yoga and karate classes.

Infrastructure and facilities

The school's 3-acre campus has its own indoor stadium with 3 basketball courts, an astro-turf-laden hockey ground, a football field and badminton courts. Additional infrastructure and facilities include a gym, a computer lab, a library, science labs, an atrium with a reading garden, a heritage zone and a dining hall with an in-house kitchen. The classrooms are equipped with multimedia teaching facilities.

A unique facility offered to the students during exam time are dormitories so that the girls can stay and study on the campus itself, having lack of proper electricity and furniture to prepare for the exams at home.
