About Karthika High School & Jr. College Mumbai
Karthika High School & Jr. College, Mumbai was established by the Bharat Education Society (BES), a public charitable Trust. It is an English medium co-ed school up to Class XII. It follows the curriculum of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. Punctuality, discipline and adhering to rules are emphasized. Parents/Guardians are required to sign the report cards which are issued after an exam.
Academics and activities Other than the regular subjects, Sanskrit is a language option for students of Class VIII to X. At the Junior College level, students can opt for the Commerce or the Science stream. Instead of merely focusing on rote learning, teachers encourage students to have group discussions, jot down points, raise queries, etc. Other than reading, activities include quizzes and poem recitations, looking up words in the dictionary and sentence formation with those words. Students also work on projects, participate in dramas, enjoy group singing, drawing, and painting, etc. Field visits of an educational nature are also organized. Students are part of a house, there being four of them based on colours, namely red, green, blue and yellow. Participating in inter-house activities creates a sense of competition, pride, and sportsmanship.
Infrastructure and facilitiesOther than regular classrooms, multimedia and internet facilities are available in the computer labs. The library is stocked with books and dictionaries, novels and quiz books for students from the primary to the higher secondary level. The science lab is equipped with the necessary facilities to make practicals a fun learning experience.
