About Uttar Kusum High School

Uttar Kusum High School is one of the good rural schools around the sub-divisional town of Diamond Harbour in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. It is located in the Uttar Kusum village, which is close to the census town of Usthi in the Magrahat - I Community Development Block in the Diamond Harbour subdivision. It is one of the oldest schools in the neighborhood, which was established in 1950, a few years after India became independent from the British colonial rule, to cater to the underprivileged and backward students of the community. Since then, it is offering quality education to the local students and has constantly brought good results in the board examinations.

Although a rural school, Uttar Kusum High School is well connected by an all-weather road to the nearby census town of Usthi. It can also be reached from the nearby railway stations of Deula and Sangrampur in the Sealdah-Diamond Harbour Railway Line in the Sealdah South section. The medium of instruction in the school is Bengali, which is the mother tongue of almost everyone in the neighborhood.

The school offers education from classes 5 to 12 and does not have a primary section. The secondary and the higher secondary sections are affiliated to the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) and the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) respectively. Considering a rural institution, Uttar Kusum High School has decent infrastructure including over twenty classrooms and more than forty teachers. The school has a large ground within its compound, which is used by the local people as a place for Namaz during the Eid and other similar congregations.
