About Somalwar High School Waddhamna
Somalwar High School, Waddhamna is one of the branches of the Somalwar Academy Education Society. The co-ed English medium school follows the syllabus of the CBSE Board. Not only does the school have an anti-ragging committee, but also a Committee for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) that includes teachers, parents and senior students. Other committees include one for Disaster Management and one for Transport, as well as the general school management committee and PTA.
AcademicsStudents at the Junior level (Nursery and KG) of Somalwar High School enjoy interesting field trips and their classroom sessions are based on the Montessori methodology of teaching. Social and motor skills are developed through practical activities.
Students of the primary section (Classes 1 to 5) have lessons taught through both, formal and informal teaching methods.
Students of the middle school (Classes 6 to 8) have to study English and Hindi and can select between Sanskrit and Marathi for the third language choice. Other subjects for them include Maths, Science, Social Science, and Computers.
Activities Co-curricular activities at Somalwar High School include planting saplings, celebrating festivals and National days, and unique days like Rainy day for the younger students who don their raincoats for some fun outside!
Indian classical dance, Western dance, vocal and instrumental music lessons are part of the curriculum. Art and craft, drama, clay modelling, etc are the other activities in the school. Sports include football, kabaddi, Karate, carrom and chess. On the first and fifth Saturday of every month, students of all sections have Yoga and meditation sessions to help develop concentration and inclucate self-discipline.
Each year the school has a science exhibition, wherein students of primary and middle school put up various science projects, such as on natural habitats, tools of communication, the solar system, etc.
Infrastructure and facilitiesOther than academic classrooms and a playground, Somalwar High School has a computer lab and a healthcare centre manned by a qualified nurse and equipped with basic medical facilities. Regular health check-ups are scheduled for the students from time to time.
An e-learning room has an educational interactive flat panel installed for digital learning. The computer lab has the latest computers and broadband connectivity and students study here under the supervision of a qualified computer science teacher.
Students can avail of transport facilities on board one of the 12 buses that each have an attendant to ensure safety and adherence to bus rules.
Admission procedureFor applying for admission to Somalwar High School, parents can obtain the registration form from the school office and submit it with the requisite documents (listed below) within three days of the issuance of the form. There will be a session for observation/interaction with the student and the parents, followed by a simple written assessment. Admission to nursery is given to children completing three years of age as on the closing date of admission for that academic year.
The documents required are-
- Photocopy of the child's birth certificate.
- Five passport size photos of the student and one passport size photo of each of the parents.
- For admission to Class II and above - (i) a photocopy of the report card of the previous year; (ii) Transfer Certificate, if applicable.
