About Montfort School, Roorkee
Montfort School, Roorkee was established on 25 July 1994 by the Brothers of St. Gabriel and had started with just 8 classrooms. Over the years it grew into a full-fledged school and presently it runs classes from kindergarten to higher secondary. It has an affiliation with CBSE and the medium of instruction at this co-educational school is English.
The city of Roorkee being close to the foothills of the Himalayas, the school has a serene and natural surroundings. Built on 11 acres of land, it is ideally located on the highway leading to the pilgrimage towns of Haridwar and Rishikesh. The school is just 7 km away from IIT Roorkee, one of the top engineering colleges in India.
Infrastructure and facilities The school has all the necessary infrastructure required of a modern school. The classrooms have interactive smartboards. The science labs are equipped with the latest equipment. The computer lab has an internet and Wi-Fi facility. There is a language lab to help students with phonetics and pronunciations. Apart from the main library, which has a treasure trove of books, there is this concept of a class library, where every student gets to bring a book each and the whole class gets to read them under the supervision of a teacher.
The students get to participate in a number of curricular activities, with year-long inter-class and inter-house competitions on activities like dance, music, art, craft, quizzes, elocutions and so on. Every major national and religious festival is organised and the students get to present their own programs during such celebrations. Parents also get the opportunity to witness the performance of their wards during such ceremonies. Apart from the various contests and programs that are organized the whole year, there is the Scouts and Guides movement, which is specifically meant for students from classes 6 to 8.
As for sports, students from class 4 onwards can practice games like cricket, badminton, football, basketball and table tennis, under the guidance of coaches, after school hours from 3:30 pm. Talented students get to participate at inter-school, district, state and national level sports meets. The school has a gymnasium, which can be availed by the students of the senior section. There is a skating rink that is meant exclusively for primary students. The kindergarten section has its own park, with see-saws, sliding ramps and swings.
Apart from the above, students can avail themselves of a transport facility on a paid basis. There is a fully equipped infirmary manned by nursing staff. The school canteen serves hygienic and healthy food, with a strict no for aerated drinks, and the menu is monitored by the school management on a regular basis.
Admissions Montfort School, Roorkee is an unaided Christian minority school. However, admissions are open to all without any restriction for any community or caste. Most of the admissions are done at the LKG level for which the age of the student has to be between three and a half to four and a half years as of 1st April in the year of admission. For higher classes, the admissions are based on vacancies. Admissions are on merit, which is decided through an entrance test and an interview. No capitation fee or donations are to be paid anytime during the selection process. Any attempts to influence the selections will in fact result in disqualification of the candidate.
