About Army Public School Chennai
Army Public School, Chennai is a CBSE higher secondary school from Class I to Class XII under the management of the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES). Like other Army Public Schools, APS Chennai gives admission primarily to the wards of Defence personnel, and a few seats may be available for civilians. It is interesting to note that APS Chennai initially was the Golden Palm Army School with classes up to Std VII. In 2010 the switch to APS Chennai was completed, with Class VIII introduced, and in 2013 Science, Commerce & Humanities streams were introduced. Both, on the academic front, as well as in sports, students have made a mark for themselves and made APS Chennai proud of them.
Campus infrastructure The APS Chennai school campus is not only green in terms of the plants that dot the landscape, but they follow environmentally-friendly policies through rainwater harvesting, vermicomposting, and solar panels. The school buildings have spacious classrooms, a computer lab, a library and reading area within it, a language lab, a maths lab, a sports room, a science park, a music room, etc, and a very spacious playground. Sports infrastructure is in place for basketball, football, athletics, badminton, table tennis, etc.
APS Chennai Activities The school has its own School Band and a Jazz troupe. Students are members of one of four houses, each named after a river with a specific colour for each House, namely, Ganga (Green), Narmada (Blue), Cauvery (Yellow), and Krishna (Red). Other than reciting poems, making posters, debating, spelling bee, etc, the Inter-House competitions are quite unique, such as both English and Hindi calligraphy, designing a cover for a magazine, cooking without fire, etc. There are programs scheduled to showcase India's diverse cultures alongside academic-based ones like National Science Day. NCC cadets of APS Chennai are also very active, conducting cleanliness drives, taking out rallies in the city for awareness of personal hygiene, AIDS awareness, etc.
