About Finland International School
Finland International School (FIS), Thane has been set up by the Goenka Global Foundation in collaboration with EduCluster Finland (ECF), University of Jyväskylä Group. Earlier this school was the Billabong High International School and has been re-branded this year as Finland International School. The globally reputed Finnish education concept offered at FIS, Thane focuses on imparting life skills alongside academic excellence from Nursery to Grade 12. The higher secondary English medium school accepts applications for admission from Indian as well as international students. The highly qualified teachers are mentored by Finnish educators to enhance their abilities in imparting education through Finnish teaching and learning methods. The campus has excellent infrastructure and facilities, including classrooms equipped with smartboards, a library, science and computer labs, a canteen serving nutritious food, sports facilities, etc. Students can enjoy co-curricular activities like art and craft, debates, quizzes, etc. and participate in inter-house competitions, cultural programs, etc.
Academics The academic levels are- Playgroup to Sr. KG: Children in these classes follow activity-based learning of the FIS Early Childhood Education & Care (ECEC) concept. Parents of children in Nursery, Jr.KG, and Sn. KG can opt for part-time or full-time ECEC.
Primary to Grade 6: Students learn Maths, English, Science, History, etc.
IGCSE Grade 7 to Grade 10 The curriculum is that of the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). A student must study Maths, Science – Coordinated (2 IGCSEs), English Language, English Literature, and either German or Spanish. There is a choice of three of any of these subjects - Art and Design, Computer Science, Science – Separate, PE, Business Studies, History and Geography.
IBPD Grade 11 and Grade 12 The curriculum is that of the IBDP International Baccalaureate programme. A student can opt for a subject from 5 main subject groups, namely, Language and Literature, Individuals and societies, Sciences, Mathematics and the Arts. Any specific Art course can be selected from the Arts group or a second course from one of the other subject groups.
FIS Thane Admission procedure Parents seeking admission for their wards to FIS Thane can call or inquire through the school's official website about the schedule for admissions and the application procedure. The personnel in charge of admission will then communicate with the parents about a tour of the school campus and set up a meeting with the school Principal. The application form for admission is available on the school's website, and relevant documents should be uploaded. The admission fee should be paid before submitting the form. After reviewing the application, an entrance assessment will be scheduled for the child.
