The Sainik School, Ghorakhal is a boys residential school established in 1966. The school aims to prepare students for entry into the National Defense Academy and the Defense Forces. The medium of instructions is English. NCC Training is compulsory for the cadets.
Location: The school is 4 kms from Bhowali and 16 Kms from Nainital. All buses from New Delhi, Lucknow, Haldwani and Kathgodam going to Almora and Ranikhet pass through Bhowali. The nearest Railway Station Kathgodam, which is 36 Kms from the school.

Admission: Admissions are made once a year in April, in classes VI and IX only. There is an entrance examination to be eligible for admission. Sainik School Ghorakhal is one of the twenty-five Sainik Schools in India. It was established on 21st March, 1966. The school is located in Nainital district of Uttarakhand amidst snow-capped mountain ranges. The area of the school campus is 500 acres. The nearest railway station is at Kathgodam, which is at a distance of 36 km. Regular bus services are available from New Delhi, Lucknow, Haldwani, Kathgodam and Ranikhet. The nearest airport is at Pantnagar, which is located at a distance of 70 km. However, the school has its own helipad.
The school emblem is the motif of Triveni Sangam (Ganga, Yamuna and Sarawati). The three segments represent Army, Navy and Air Force. The motto of the school is "Buddhiryasya Balantasya" which means "wisdom brings strength". The aim of the school is to send at least forty students every year to NDA, Naval Academy and Air Force Academy. Many top-level officers of armed forces (both serving and retired) are products of this prestigious residential school.
Sainik School Ghorakhal is managed by Sainik School Society Board of Governors. The Defence Minister is the Chairperson of the Board of Governors. The school is affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education. Students can opt for Science, Commerce and Humanities in X+II level. Wide combination of subjects are available for the students to choose from. The teachers are highly qualified and like all other Sainik Schools, the standard of teaching is excellent. Sainik School, Ghorakhal is a Boys' only school.
Admission in Sainik School, Ghorakhal is held once in every year at two levels, viz., in class VIth and in class IXth. No admission takes place in class X+II. Admission tests are held on the 3rd Sunday in the month of April every year.
