Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Vidyashram NIRD, Rajendranagar in Hyderabad first started as a NIRD primary school. The then Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Shri Sardar Buta Singh inaugurated it in March 1985. At that time, the school had just 71 students. In April 1991, the school was handed over by the NIRD (National Institute of Rural Development) to Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
Over the years, the school has grown up from a primary school to a full-fledged secondary school. The present strength of the students is now more than 1300. It has 34 teaching staff and 9 non-teaching staff. Presently, the school has classes from LKG to class 10. It is a co-educational English medium school affiliated to CBSE. Year on, students have been performing very well in their 10th board exams. The school proudly presents the name of its toppers on its website.
Infrastructure and facilities The school has usual facilities like library, laboratories for all science groups, including, math and a well-equipped computer lab for students from class 1 onward. The math lab has learning aids that help students understand the subject very easily. The school has a playground, wherein sports like cricket, volleyball, badminton, kho-kho and kabaddi are played. There are indoor facilities for games like table tennis and carrom. There is even a cricket pitch, exclusively for net practices. For the primary students, there are see-saws, swings, slides and sandpits. Students regularly participate in inter-school meets for roller skating, shuttle badminton, cricket and have made the school proud by winning some of them.
Like every other Bhavan school, Bhavan's Vidyashram NIRD gives due importance to Indian culture and heritage. Value education is part of every Bhavan school. Co-curricular activities are a regular feature here. There are events like drawing, painting, debate, elocution, quiz contest, Gita shloka recitation, essay and creative writing contests. Activities like rangoli, flower arrangement, handwriting contest, Spell Bee, poem recitation, yoga and science quiz are also conducted. Cultural events featuring dances, drama and song renditions are quite common. There have been workshops on personality development, life skill development and National Integration Camps that give the students opportunities to learn beyond academics. Students are also taken for tours of historical significance and educational value.

Admissions For admissions, registration are done in December itself for the next academic year. Students should be in possession of transfer certificates from the school last studied. For admission to class 9, they should be able to certify that they have studied Hindi, English as well as a third language up to class 8. Admissions will be based purely on merit only and based on the vacancies available.
Age Criteria: For admissions to LKG, the age of the pupil should be more than 3 years as on 31st March of the year of admission. For class 9, the age should be 13+ as of 30 Sep of the academic year. - Dhruv
