Vellayan Chettiar Higher Secondary School (VCHSS) is managed by AMM Charities Trust since 1963. It is a private aided co-educational institution which is offering education up to class XII. VCHSS is recognized by the Government of Tamil Nadu and it follows the guidelines of the Tamil Nadu state Education Board. The school aims to provide quality education and to improve the knowledge and skills of both students and the teachers.
Academics The school follows Equity (Samacheer) syllabus of Tamil Nadu up to class X and for the higher secondary classes VCHSS follows the Tamil Nadu state board syllabus. The school conducts both theoretical and practical classes to improve the subject knowledge of the students. To test the academic excellence of the students, the school regularly conducts tests and exams. Special coaching is provided for the students who appear for the board examinations of class X and XII.
Facilities VCHSS campus covers a large area of 11.66 acres land on Thiruvottiyur High road. The built up area of the school is 5.5 acres and the playground covers an area of another 6.1 acres. The classrooms in the school are spacious, ventilated and furnished. Separate classrooms are available for each class and section up to class XII. Well-equipped laboratories are present in the school for Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, General Science and Computer Science. The school library is spacious and well stocked with nearly 19,000 books on various topics. The school playground is large and has facilities to play games and sports such as football, badminton, volleyball, beach-volley ball, basketball and track events.
Activities The school gives more importance to co-curricular activities and sports. Special training is given to the interested students in games and sports. The school also encourages the students to participate in all the inter-school competitions and sports meet.
